This guy just doesn't stop...

I was watching the morning news, and his marketing machine was promoting his latest thing.
Buy the vault, and he will PERSONALLY to you!

I saw them as a junuir high kid  in the mid 70's, and  for a brief moment, was mesmerized. Just as cool as Alice Cooper. By high school, I realized they were not cool, because the girls didn't dig them. Back to the Stones and Zeppelin and everything else that was going on.

I will give him credit for longevity. I imagine there are fans who are into this stuff?

Stepping into the confession booth......

So, I saw these guys in 75.Went to Licorice Pizza(guys in SoCal know this one) and bought their first 3 albums  and learned every guitar lick with my fake Les Paul in my bedroom. I thought they were the Apex of R&R,Jimmy Page and Pete Townsend had NOTHING on Ace Frehley.

Thank goodness, cars and girls grabbed my attention in high school.

One of ways to make foolish pay. It's not important to have music, more important to have fans and fans are ones who pay to those who can barely play.
I admire Simmons.  A genuine entrepeneur succeeding in the U.S. (mostly) free market economy.
Licorice Pizza! Tablejockey, I shopped at the one on Topanga Canyon Boulevard in Canoga Park when I lived there in '78-'82. LP was a small record store chain in SoCal, of which there were a few. Another was Moby Disc (good name!), in whose Sherman Oaks store on Ventura Boulevard Lucinda Williams could be found standing behind the cash register at in 1987, staring off into space (perhaps writing some lyrics in her head) when not ringing up customer’s purchases. She was playing around L.A. with a small band in little dives---I saw her in a pizza parlor, singing to a crowd of a half dozen. At that time she was recording what I still consider her best album---the s/t one on Rough Trade (1988), a great, great album.
bondmanp- Indeed, the band itself is a marketing machine. Can't fault them for that.

bdp24-I remember Moby Disc, but never shopped there. Are you still living in SoCal, or did you get out of this madness?
I heard him on NPR once being interviewed by TerryGross. He came off pretty bad. He tried playing rock star like the interview was beneath his coolness and ended up sounding like a real fool. Bad interview possibly and maybe misjudged the moment and audience. Ignorant and uninformed at a minimum. It was pretty cringe worthy moment and funny in the end he could be that dim.
That Terry Gross interview was bizarre. Chaim Weiss revealed himself as a total a$$. You can pull it up from the internets.
I don't know what he's flogging, but after that intro I sure ain't gonna buy it!  (PS maybe he is selling a floggings?)

I remember that interview.Gene is...Gene. He does know how to keep the revenue stream going.

I can't believe there WILL be someone to ante up for that silly package!

ncarv, your purposefully mentioning Gene’s real name is stealth anti semitism and NOTHING ELSE
@goldenear1948

Quite the opposite. My reference to his real name is to reveal him as a phony and a sad attempt to escape his identity. Perhaps something else? (Please, goldenear1948, no reason to be so reactive.)

Furthermore, I am Jewish, my father was born in Berlin and arrived in the USA with my grandparents, and most of the rest of his family was destroyed in The Holocaust. A handful made it to Israel and the US.

@tablejockey---Oops, I just now finally saw your question from 12-15-17 to me! I’m up in Vancouver Washington now, just over the border from Portland Oregon. A couple drummers I knew in L.A. moved up here before me, one of whom---Jose Medeles of The Breeders---has opened a cool little drum shop, Revival Drums. There is a very active, healthy music scene here, and some good record shops. Music Millennium has a huge amount of floor space dedicated to LP’s. I’m liking it up here. Rather dark and wet, which is a pleasant change from the bright and hot SoCal!
Simmons isn't a phony, he reveals himself in that Gross interview for what he really is, a self centered money grubbing bore. The guy has a serious personality disorder, but maybe I'm mistaken and we are just too "misunderstanding" and should cut him more slack. Interviews as with tweets have a way of revealing fundamental truths.
