Yes, I was using lithium ion battery portable generator on various audio equipment for some time. I long run I preferred running that equipment through my ac power conditioner. I suspect the inverters within these generators create their own noise which affects sound quality. Also, I find audiophile AC receptacles to be effective, these generators use pretty poor receptacles. I'd bet on audiophile lithium ion battery pack on its way.

I guess there's no easy solution after all; and certainly not a cheap one. |
Everyone always falling into the same trap of thinking there is "a" "solution". There is never one. And it is never solved. There is only ever good and better. Don't look at me, I'm just the one willing to gore the sacred calf. Over and over again.
All there is, is everything matters. You cannot ever "solve" AC. Yes batteries are a lot better. We had a guy last year, had battery power for hurricane or whatever blackouts, he noticed the stereo sounded better on backup. That was using an inverter to get AC from battery DC. Even better is to use the DC from the battery direct into each component.
Do that and then guess what? There will be something better still. There is no solution. Stop even thinking of it. Serves no purpose. Think only of all the different ways it can be better. Then pick one and do it.
Which one? Whichever one you can do!
Yes it really is that simple. |
My streamer’s audio circuits run on batteries. Some of the best sounding preamps I have heard run on batteries. But I am afraid Millercarbon is right. Everything matters and there are going to be multiple components to running the battery power which will compromise the sound. I can imagine a line of components each with their own optimized battery power and charging system that may push the state of the art at some point. Doing this with an amp is now possible. Will be interesting to see… hear. |

Has anyone ever seen the giant craters left in the earth from lithium mining? It's being promoted as a 'cure' for our addiction to fossil fuels. When you see futuristic movies of earth and it looks like a middleaged guy that had bad acne you'll know why. |
@millercarbon: "There is no solution. Stop even thinking of it."
Wow! Does that sentiment really jive with the icon you've chosen? Maybe Oscar the Grouch but Al?
If we all lived by that credo, we'd all still be living in caves and wondering where our next meal was coming from.
Must've been a moment of weakness. Sounds too harsh, even for you.

Almost forgot, many years ago ran a NEW (nirvana electronic works) A60 amp. Class A ss amp ran off four lead acid batteries. I was looking for cleaner power all those years ago, the A60 did have a much lower noise floor and sense of purity than all amps prior.

Must’ve been a moment of weakness. Sounds too harsh, even for you. You have much to learn, grasshopper. There is no solution because a solution means the problem is solved. But the problem is never solved. It is only made less and less of a problem. We still have people living in caves by the way. Just because we figured out how to build better housing didn’t solve that problem. If you find reality harsh, can the weakness and buck up. |

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with adopting better solutions until that day of perfection either. MC adopts better solutions himself, I heard his new TT. I’m guessing he’s had an off day or something? I'm not saying his comment doesn't have merit, it's a case of why stop trying to find better solutions - hopefully getting very very close to perfect. @rbertalotto - I like your Agon name, it has an Italiano flavor to it. |
@millercarbon, I was actually responding more to the rather imperious or arrogant tone of "Stop even thinking about it.", as opposed to the still negative and defeatist "There is no solution." Such sentiments serve only as impediments to advancements. I'm confident Al would agree with that. Judging from many of your other more helpful and considerably less churlish posts, I suspect you might, as well. Many people on forums like this are genuinely interested in obtaining guidance, furthering their knowledge and selflessly sharing their expertise and experiences. A little humility or modesty, especially in a teacher, goes a long way; not to mention kindness. Sooner or later, the faces of paragons turn to "alabaster when (they) find (their) servant(s) (have become their) master(s)".

Can't remember who said something like: "Perfection exists only in the mind...". It was probably one of the great Greek philosophers like Plato but many philosophers have uttered the same sentiment. |
Everyone always falling into the same trap of thinking there is "a" "solution". Sometimes posting this crap PC at work means not having italics, bold, underline. But we still have the scare quotes. So we put scare quotes around "a" and "solution" hoping people will get it. Sorry to sound imperious, but that is what scare quotes are for. Not the usual quotes indicating something someone said. Scare quotes draw attention to the words as opposed to the speaker of the words. In a perfect world everyone would understand all that means is we are never done. There is never "a" solution but instead only what works for now. It is fun and exciting to find the new one that works better than the old one. Solutions are like Porsches: The best one will always be the next one. |

Close. The best Porsche is the one you're driving.
