Vintage JBL Floor Standing Speakers

I'd like to get a pair of old JBLs.  Any recommendations?

Thank you.

I have a pair of 4343s. They sound great and have a very expansive soundstage. Imaging is great also. The only downside is the size and weight

I just purchased L112's.  Got a great deal and I am in the process of re-doing them.  I am a little bit of a speaker nut as I think I have approximately 12 pair at the house.   Always an AR fan.  But I will admit that JBL has my utmost respect as a leader in speaker design and innovation during the golden years of audio.   This is my second pair of L112's and I am simply amazed at the amount of sound that comes out of them.   They are just fun.  Currently they are set up with AR 12's and Mirage M3si's.  Each of those in their own right do things very well, but the JBL's are just a little more "fun" to listen to.  My new ones, I believe, are in need of a re-cap as I hear a little strain at louder volumes that I don't think would be there with fresh caps.   I would love to one day own a pair of L45's just to hear them.  But the L112's are just hard to beat for size, sound, and all of the music they play well.

I just bought, redid and sold both a pair of Jubal L65s and L100s. It definitely improves the speaker to put in some better hardware and to update the crossovers but I really hated the sound of both these speakers. What they did do well, especially the Jubals, is play loud. In fact in some ways the Jubals made everything sound kind of like a live performance. So before buying any older JBLs make certain you like this West Coast kind of sound. I thought the L100s had absolutely no redeeming qualities. They just sounded odd.

My guess is that there exist much better, more modern representations of what people like about JBL. I am not trolling just trying to help.

JBL L100 classics.  I almost bought a used pair of the recent reboot with the stands even though I had no where to put them.  My wife talked me off the ledge before I could buy them.  I still want a pair.  Maybe when she goes out shopping…

What kind of money are you looking to spend? 4345s/4350s/4355s would be the way to go if you can find and afford them. They will be cheaper than Paragons or Hartsfields and offer way more fidelity.

For a sampling of vintage JBLs and prices (though some are too high for what they are), other than the "bay" check C/L within the Los Angeles/Orange County area.

So many to choose from, and hopefully you will get many suggestions, my favorites follow. If you have the money, Hartsfields and the Paragon are nice. A step down would be Olympus or Apollo. For more modern, L300 or L212 would be fun. And if bereft of funds the sleepers are L5 and L7.

Good luck with the hunt and happy holidays.
