What did you get for Christmas?

My daughter keeps hitting home runs when it comes to picking out CD's as Christmas gifts for the old man.

This year she gifted me Victor Hely-Hutchinson, A Carol Symphony, Prague Philharmonic.  Naxos 8.557099.

In a word, spectacular.  This is a reference recording in the full sense of the word.  The music, the performance is wonderful.  If you are tired of the unending same old same old Christmas music, this CD is for you.

I save the best for last.  From an audiophile standpoint, this recording is, as already noted, reference quality.  The recording is front third orchestra.  Direct and powerful. If you love brass with some thunder, you will love this performance. But it does note end with the brass.  Stings and all other sections of the orchestra are equally well rendered.  All so realistic!

Now, back to the performance.

I bought myself (does that count?) a Technics SL-1300G-K Direct Drive Turnable in Black and a Sumiko Starling MC cartridge to use on it.  Also a Pro-Ject Tube Box DS3 B Phono Preamp, Dual Mono, All TUBE to use with it.

So a new analog front-end.

It's scheduled to arrive today.

@rpeluso  Sure it counts!  You must be quite excited as that looks to be a very nice addition.  Let us know how your present sounds once you get it set up.
