Santana Abraxas (ARS Joerg Kessler, Columbia - 32032, KC 30130) just arrived from Discogs. This was from Audiophile Record Service, mastered from original tapes, released in 1997 I think. It is supposed to be an excellent sounding pressing, and I’m curious how it compares to my standard Columbia.
|
@gakerty,
Hope it meets your expectations. Let us know.
Natalie Merchant "The New Tigerlily Recordings"

Listening to the ARS Abraxas pressing now. It has greater clarity to the cymbals, which sounded somewhat dull on my regular Columbia pressing. Bass is lower in level, but tighter on the ARS vs recent Columbia. Wow, this ARS sounds so clean, and I mean that in a good way for sure! Vocals are more front and center, guitar too. Enough flipping between the two pressings I have, gonna listen to the whole album now (ARS). I am happy.

@slaw, had my Just Won't Burn out ready to play and am digging for Heroes Are Hard To Find.
|
@slaw and @tooblue - I love "Just Won't Burn". I saw Tedeschi back in the day, shortly after that album came out. What a great artist. Haven't enjoyed her as much since she hooked up with that trucker.......;~)
|
Beck - "Morning Phase"
Beautiful record. |
@tooblue, @reubent ,
I was going to play the ST lp last weekend but for the life of me could not locate it. Oddly enough, while searching for another lp yesterday, the ST lp was right where it was suppose to be.
|
Supertramp - "Brother Where You Bound?"
Supertramp's best IMHO, by a good margin. And without Roger Hodgson. Maybe that's why?
|
@reubent ,
Didn't they bring in Roger Waters on this lp?
|
@slaw - From Wiki - David Gilmour – guitar solos on Brother Where You Bound
Just the one song, but it's about 30% - 40% of the album run time....... |
@reubent ,
Well, I was going totally by memory. I think I bought my copy in the mid 80's.
I'll give myself half credit on that one. Haha.

Nice selections! slaw Happy Listening! |
USPS just showed up with a nice package......
Listening to my newly acquired copy of Roger McGuinn - "Back From Rio".
I really like this record. I've had it on CD since it was released in 1990 or so. But the vinyl LP is better in every way.....
Up Next - The bonus record that came with "back from Rio". Brewer and Shipley - "ST11261". I have no idea what to expect. Never heard this record and I'm unfamiliar with the artist, only knowing their hit "One Toke Over the Line", which is not on this record.....
|
@slaw to be honest it really isn't a pressing I'd recommend going out to buy. Just my opinion though. Alan Parsons is always an excellent choice.
Just put on...
Alan Parsons Project - Stereotomy |
Thanks @jafant,
Jethro Tull "War Child" Steven Wilson mix

Tonights mixup...
Christopher Cross - Christopher Cross Hangin' Out with Henry Mancini The Rolling Stones - Some Girls (MFSL) [this is by far one of my favorite albums to drop the needle on; especially this pressing] Nick Drake - Pink Moon (2013 Reissue) [this pressing has a lot of crackle and pop to it; still an amazing album to listen to] |
Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse "Dark Night of the Soul"
|
throwing in a little "Psychedelic Pill" throughout the night/day...
|
K T Tunstall "Crescent Moon"
|
Dee Dee Bridgewater/Memphis, yes I am ready, The Kinks/Low Budget, Ronnie Spector/English Heart |
@tooblue - I love the Kinks and "low Budget". Good one........ |
Just getting around to my bonus record - Brewer and Shipley - "ST11261". I'm almost completely unfamiliar with these guys. Honestly, had no idea what to expect. But I like it! Not bad at all and the sound quality is really good. Not the kind of music I was listening to in 1974 when it was released. But I like it in 2018.

Yesterday:
Dave Holland-- Aziza. Funky, spacey, somewhat quirky grooves. This grew on me bigtime.
Julian Lage-- Modern Lore. Not as brilliant as his Arclight, and more subdued and spaceous, but with plenty of great guitarplaying and writing.
Nils Lofgren- Night after Night. Used record score! ~5$ for this double live album. Fun, poppy, with some guitar wizardry. It's a keeper.
|
Nona Ben David--Resonance Captivating.
Yoko Kaneko--Wofgang Amadeus Mozart: Works from his "Golden Age."
Todd Garfinkel's MA Recordings can simply transport oneself to a better place. |
I just realized this is the forum for turntables and not CDs. Still great music. |
Mail person showed up while I was washing my pickup today, love that woman, enjoying Duke Ellington/Piano In The Background, Joe Turner/Big Joe Rides Again, Hendrix/Both Sides Of The Sky, Crosby Stills, Nash & Young/Bill Gram Tribute Concert San Francisco 1991 |
Lee Ritenour & Dave Grusin - AMPARO and Miles Davis & Bags!
Cheers |
Paul Simon - "Still Crazy After All These Years" |
Pink Floyd "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" I hope everyone's copy sounds as good as mine.. a 10 at least!
