A Tombstone in the Living room????

I have read that granite is awesome to put under electronics.Ive also read how very expensive it is.I went to our friendly neighborhood tombstone maker and asked if he could sell me some.(yes he asked what I wanted it for) I hate that! anyway he showed me some "pet markers" 18"x 12"x2" at $120 !! Then he remembered he had a scrap piece.(polished on 1 side)30"x 18"x 3" he said I could it have for $20!! He offered to cut it for $10 so I can end up with 2 pieces 15"x 18"x3" for $30 anyway, has anyone used granite under their components and how did it work out?

$20 for a piece of granite is not that unusual as granite dealers usually have "remnants" just like carpet dealers.Don't limit your search to tombstone makers, unless you live in the boonies, like me, there will be granite and marble fabricators who supply kitchen countertops and office building floors and walls.
I tried granite under my SF Transport 3 and then I tried Soapstone. The soapstone is MUCH better. Just by knocking onit, you can tell that it is much less resonant. However, it is softer than granite so you need to handle it with caution. I tried brass spikes and it cracked the soapstone, but BDR cones work fantastic.
Is anyone using any special type of footer under these stones? If not what is the stone itself resting on or more importantly does it seem to make a difference? I have not tried stone, I have a large 1" thick piece of marble but have heard that it rings, so still use it for dough in the kitchen.
Great! But I got ripped-off by my neighbour hoof granite-man. I paid $400 for 4 -21*17*1.25 nice gray-black, corner rounded/smoothed. But I still saved about that much compared to the shelf and stuff
Nilthepill,I dont think you got ripped off.Granite is very expensive.I lucked out is all.I plan on just putting a soft, thin, rubbery mat between the granite and the shelves.Anyone have another idea?
