Ex Dunlavy Owners - What Other Speakers Have Made You Happy?

I’ve owned a fair few different speakers over the years but whatever new thing I try I always end up going back to my Dunlavy SC-3
I’ve lived with large horns, maggies, Merlin TSM/VSM, Carver Amazing, Sonus Faber Cremona Auditor M, Castle Harlech, and Dali Mentor 6.
All of these were very good speakers whose presentation I enjoyed, but none were ‘keepers’ ahead of the SC-3.

The things I enjoy most about the SC-3 are its sheer transparency and the way it throws a wide, deep soundstage that’s ever so slightly recessed behind the front speaker plane. Though large, when set up properly they can disappear in the room and provide a clear portal to all types of music.

The things I would like to improve upon are its bottom end, I’d favor more extension and a weightier sound, particularly when playing classic rock from the likes of Rush, Genesis etc. On simpler folk music, such as albums like Solid Air from John Martyn, they’re damn near perfect.
Going up to an SC-4 is possible, but my room is less than accommodating of larger speakers, being only 16x17x8.
Staying put is an option, but I’m thinking there has to be something significantly better out there in the max $7500 range(used).

As an ex Dunlavy owner, what other speakers have outshone Dunlavys in your system and most importantly, what is it about them that improves upon Dunlavy performance?

I’m using 60w tube monoblocks from Thor Audio, though I’ve also had high powered SS amps on hand, a Emotive Audio Epifania preamp, vinyl from a Feickert Woodpecker with Manley Steelhead, and streaming via Sonore/SGC into a Denafrips Terminator DAC. I also use 4 passive subs in a DBA with miniDSP 2x4 and separate power amplification.

Were I to take a punt it would probably be with something like a Spatial Audio, or perhaps even a Klipsch Heritage model. I lived briefly with a pair of original Heresy I and heard some potential.

I know this is a small niche but perhaps a few of you might have experience with the brand.

cheers

Have you given Magico speakers a listen yet?   I've owned and heard several Merlin speakers.   The Magico S5 MkII sounded pretty impressive to me on similar equipment that I've heard Merlins on.
@paullb thanks for the suggestion. Oddly enough I've never heard Vandersteen speakers. I'll try to correct that soon.

@ozzy62 thanks. I've seen some of your other posts on Klipsch and see that you're a fan of the Cornwall. If I remember correctly, you're somewhere in VA, right? (I'm near South Hill)
@pinwa - thanks. I heard what I think were Moabs at CAF 2019 in a room similar in size to mine. I recall being fairly impressed though I thought them a little dark sounding, which isn't a deal-breaker. However, they're such a dominating speaker visually that I'm not sure I could get past that. Perhaps a smaller model would work.

@knotscott - I've never heard Magico. Hopefully they're at CAF this year, if so, I'll check them out.

Yes, I am in Lynchburg. So you aren't far away at all. If you'd like to take a listen to the Cornwalls you are most welcome any time.
