cartridge retipping

Thanks Raul. Searching for relevant information is not easy. I was

''spoiled'' by my friend Axel Schurholz so I had no worry about

''which retipper''. Alas he passed away so I was forced to search

for some other. So I deed find ''Expert Stylus'' in UK but when

they left the Union they also lost ''competitive prices''. In E.U.

one need to count VAT ( +/- 20% + import duty of 13 % ) as

added cost by rettiping. So the circumstance where the retipper

lives become relevant info. As is the case with your carts collection

you also have ''extended'' knowledge about reapair services.

In this sense you can help  other in both ways. (grin)

@rauliruegas, @nandric After having looked at a bunch of styluses I have come to the conclusion that the styluses of the most expensive cartridges are being hand selected. The diamonds appear to be cleaner and have better shape and polish. This is still a relatively very small selection but I can not ignore what I see. The only place I am sending my cartridges to be retipped or replaced is to the original manufacturer.

But sometimes, as in the case of my 2 Transfiguration carts, they are no longer made and an aftermarket retip is necessary. Soundsmith did one for me and it sounds excellent. VAS did another one, but I haven’t installed it yet. Too bad Transfiguration went under. They were really nice cartridges. Even the less expensive ones.

Steve Leung at VAS. Rebuilt my ART9 and rewired my VPI JMW9 tonearnm. Excellent work, great communication, and fast reliable service.

I've also used Steve Leung; he's done a cantilever + stylus on both a Denon 103 and a ZYX Airy 3S, and refurbished and rewired my Triplanar II. Great work all around, easy to deal with, and reasonable prices. Highly recommended.
