I would like to know if there is any known and documented tweak to upgrade the SQ of my SP9 first version, I seem to recall the MKII is not just different components but I might be wrong.
Do you have any suggestion for updates to improve the SQ?
I recall the consensus was that the SP9 was a disappointment compared to the SP6 and was quickly discontinued to make way for the SP10. Sell the SP9 and get the SP10. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear!
Sp9 Mk III was probably the most disappointing component i've purchased over many decades in audio. This hybrid pre sorely lacks resolution, transparency, in this case absolutely true, you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Other than trying various tubes, the only mod I did was an IEC receptacle so I could try various power cords, neither did a thing to help. Good advice, sell it, and yes the SP10 was/is a far better pre.
