Sonus Faber Alternatives That Offer Similar Sound and Performance, your expertise needed!
Just a comment.  The Joseph Audio speakers use the Seas Magnesium woofers and the Seas soft dome tweeters (both which I have intimate experience as I have just built my own speakers using these drivers).  This is a recording I have done with them:...

I have not heard the MX122 directly, so I’m assuming here.  I think both would have similar sound, a somewhat laid back sonic signature.  Both have good approaches to power supply.  I could be wrong, but I think McIntosh uses op amps for all analo...

Try looking at Aerial Acoustics 7T.  It is somewhat of a very smooth and forgiving speaker like Sonus.  It may not be as that Sonus levers, but it’s definitely affordable.

I actually did not like Theta when I tried it in my system.  However, with those McIntosh amps, a Theta might be okay.  The Casablanca III is old technology at this point and should be avoided if you need HDMI support.i agree on Emotiva.  It’s goo...
In need of some Amplifier advice. Is therereally any point in it with my current setup?
If you really wanted an integrated, I would look at the Hegel. Like this H160:http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=155723.0It is pretty much the equivalent of the Parasound Integrated (but without phono preamp and sub crossover). Hegel also ...

Just reading and catching up on this thread.  One comment I will make is I think your choice of Yamaha 3070 is a very good one.  I think the Yamaha is the most neutral and most natural sounding receiver without pushing any particular characteristi...
Should I eliminate my preamp?
I have had the same experiences as electro slacker.  There are times when a certain preamp will add a magic to the sound that isn’t there with the DAC/source.  Just like I mentioned above, a preamp is a tool that can be used to help shape/tune the...
Rookie Question, maybe
It’s my understanding that the 4ohm and 8ohm Connections on the tube amp will allow safe power supply voltage for speaker load.  I think it’s based on different taps for the output transformer.  So, if you have 4ohm speak res, connect them to the ...
Power amp/integrated amp suggestions for SUPER POWER HUNGRY/INEFFICIENT SPEAKERS
Looking at the Lyr, it can be used as a preamp to connect to a normal amplifier.  It has stereo RCA preamp outputs on the back and they are controlled by the volume knob.I'm not sure why Snell is recommending 100-300 watts.  The speakers sensitivi...
Should I eliminate my preamp?
Using an Oppo directly connected to Bryston amplifier can have high fidelity.  However, this combination could also sound a little sterile in a way.  Bryston amplifiers are usually very exacting and dynamic, but sometimes lack "life" - this could ...
Preamp: Parasound P5 vs Rotel RC1590
I have had very similar results with several other Emotiva preamp/DACs.  They are just not good devices.I think the PS Audio Stellar Gain will be the best out of all your choices.  It has a very large toroidal transformer and uses linear power sup...
acoustical stuffing / sound dampening subwoofer cabinet REL BRITANNIA B1 subwoofer
I just did the model on the Eminence and it would work out just fine in your REL B1 box.  So, ultimately, any choice of the ScanSpeak, Peerless or Eminence subwoofers I suggested would work great in your REL B1 cabinet.
acoustical stuffing / sound dampening subwoofer cabinet REL BRITANNIA B1 subwoofer
Faital Pro makes some good stuff.  However, this woofer would not be a good choice for your REL box.  For one thing, the resonance frequency is very high at 45hz - making this a general woofer instead of a subwoofer.  Subwoofer drivers typically h...
JL Audio e112 or HSU ULS MK2
I don't know that the JL Audio subs are really worth $3500 over the Hsu.  Like Eric said, the E112 does not have room correction, so if you wanted JL Audio, I'd recommend looking at used Fathom (F112).You could also look into the SVS 4000 subs:htt...
JL Audio e112 or HSU ULS MK2
The JL Audio would probably be a tighter sounding sound, but yes, much more expensive.  You could look at getting a couple of used JL Audio Fathom 112 or 110 models.  The Fathom has the D.A.R.O. room correction system with the microphone.  The cos...
