Waiting on 802D3 to arrive -- Will I need a sub?
I just came into this conversation and would like to make a comment.  I would highly caution against many statements that say the XA60.8 will not be enough to power the 802 D3 speakers.  The XA amplifier is a full Class A amp, which means it is bi...
Stereo Guy - Need advice on HT integration
You don't need a receiver.  I think you will want to get a HT Processor.  The Marantz AV7703 or AV7704 will do great at that price point.  What is the your budget?None of the HT Processors will have a phono preamp built in, so you would need to ge...
Dynaudio vs B&W help...
@toddcowles - The B&W D2 is going to be a slightly warm/soft response in the midrange because of the Kevlar.  The B&K 200.7 is an great amp with high current, but it is extremely warm sounding (I had this exact amp in the past).  I can tot...
Wide dispersion + high efficiency + detail + coherence in a speaker?
I think you are asking for too much.  The Ohm Walsh speakers are nice and they are 360 degree radiating, but compared to other speakers, you are going to sacrifice coherence/clarity.  They are not extremely efficient at about 87db.You could look i...
How important is amplifier choice for surround speakers?
I would agree that it's not critical.  It should be "close", but it doesn't have to be exactly matching.  The speakers should also be "close", but doesn't have to exactly match. In my opinion, the front 3 speakers (left/center/right) should match e...
Dynaudio vs B&W help...
I think your AVR would be fine.  It is 170 watts per channel into 8 ohms, or 270 watts into 4 ohms WHEN ONLY 2 SPEAKERS ARE DRIVEN.  Or it is 120 watts per channel when all 7 speakers are driven.  This is still a good size shared power supply.  Yo...
Dynaudio vs B&W help...
You are right, the "new" Dynaudios have been voice much closer to neutral (no longer have a "bloom").  They are smoother and much more controlled.  However, I don't know that I fully agree that the tweeters are better than B&W.  The new Dynaud...
Dynaudio vs B&W help...
The Dynaudio speakers have a midrange bloom type of sound.  The midrange is very full and strong and forward and lively (probably more forward towards the upper mids).  This type of character extends into the tweeter area as well.  The tube-like b...
Amp and PreAmp, stick to the same brand?
I have done a lot of equipment combinations and the idea that equipment from the same brand is "designed to work together" is really just a marketing ploy, in my opinion.  That being said, if you want to keep the McIntosh aesthetics to match your ...
Seeking Speaker Recommendations
I should say that you need a long throw horn.  That's why the Klipsch Cornwall is nice and throaty.  The horn itself is not extremely large/wide, but it is definitely a longer throw than the RF7 (and probably even longer throw than the Chorus).
Seeking Speaker Recommendations
Too all who have suggested many different conventional speakers - the OP has clearly stated that he likes the character of horn-based speakers.  There are many conventional speakers that I think sound absolutely amazing, but I do not think any of ...
Emotiva BasX TA-100 integrated or BasX PT-100 preamp sound quality
Ah, looking at your post, if you are using Hegel integrated in your main system, I think you are likely going to be disappointed with the Emotiva equipment.  The Hegel is definitely a lot more refined.I have been able to get the Emotiva amplifiers...
Home audio system recommendations
TMR Audio is a vendor that re-sells used audio equipment (a.k.a. The Music Room).  They are excellent in customer service.  I have purchased from them several times. If you have some good ear buds, maybe you can listen to some youtube videos.  Obvi...
Home audio system recommendations
Now here it comes.  There is a tendency for people just to chime in with their own speaker with the opinion that "they are the best speakers, period". lol.  Speakers are a very personal choice and not every speaker is the right one for every perso...
Krell S1200 or Yamaha CXA5100?
hi maella.  Yes, I have had the same problems with responses from Krell.  I think they are very busy sometimes.  You just have to keep on them and keep calling if you want a response.  Krell has their own "Flashloader" software that will upgrade t...
