best pc sound card
Probably the best multi-channel analog computer sound card is the Xonar Essence Stx with the 5-channel daughter card.  This gives you a full 7 hi res channels.  Both cards allow you the ability to swap op amps.  The versions with the 5-channel dau...
TOSLINK OPTICAL cables
I have definitely heard differences between a low cost plastic monofilament toslink and a Lifatec glass fiber toslink.  I have heard differences between both toslink types and various COAX cables.  It really depends on your ears and the resolution...
TOSLINK OPTICAL cables
A good glass fiber toslink will have more resolution than standard monofilimant.  Recommendations are Lifatec or something like Wire World Supernova. But in general, a good COAX cable will be better than toslink.
Adding a Cisco Gigabit Switch
A network switch does not "reclock" the signal like you think.  It uses a "store and forward" data packet communication method (like sending letters through the mail on random days).  Most Cisco switches have built-in switching power supplies.  Th...
What to replace an Adcom amp with?
McCormack, Bryston, Classe and Odyssey are not good matches for him because he is coming from Adcom and does NOT want a high resolution amp for his bright sounding KEF speakers.Conrad Johnson and Rogue are good choices, but only 2 channel.  He's l...
Using a Rel Sub with a dedicated center channel
He's using a Yamaha CX-A5200, which is actually a processor.  chief - what amp are you using?  If you're looking for a next step, maybe try to look at matching your three front speakers.  That would make the sound much more cohesive.  There are d...
Trying to fix specific issues with my listening area
I would agree with millercarbon on this.  I think your Yamaha is running out of gas (smaller power supply).  I would probably get an external amplifier for the left/center/right (at least) and use the pre-outs on the receiver to connect to amp.  T...
Using a Rel Sub with a dedicated center channel
Yeah, 120 hz is very high for a sub crossover. Some subs may actually cause beaming or a "too strong" type of sound in the midbass at this crossover. They are also not as crisp/clean in the midbass at these frequencies. I have a HTM2 D3 center tha...
Using a Rel Sub with a dedicated center channel
The B&W HTM 1 should have no problem going down to 50-60 hz.  I would set the center to LARGE in your situation and just live with that.  It's gong to be much better for male vocal and other things.
Odyssey kismet - emotiva xpa1 1000w ?
Heat is always usually a byproduct of how much Class A bias the amp output board has.  If you are references the older generation Emotiva (Such as XPA-1 Gen 2), then the bias is a bit high (maybe 8-10 watts into Class A).  I suspect the Odyssey is...

Amplifier for B&W 705 S2
The B&W S2 series has a new carbon tweeter than can be a bit bright/harsh at times.  I can see where the Classe AMP2 gave you somewhat of a bright/harsh sound.  The Classe is more transparent.  The Parasound is voiced just slightly on the warm...
Audioquest or Kimber kable.
Yep, I have done a direct side-by-side comparison of a lot of HDMI cables over the last couple years. I tried the Audioquest Vodka, which is a step above your carbon. The video was okay, but audio was thin and a bit bright in comparison to several...
Audioquest Rocket 33, anyone knows how to take off the banana plug end?
I tried working with the Banana 500 series and ended up just sending it back.  The screws on the outer case are so tiny that they strip very easily, and then it's junk (some were already stripped coming from the factory).  Also, the clamp screws f...
Audioquest or Kimber kable.
Audioquest is the new monster and they offer no measurements on their speakers with "dbs" or without. THey are snake-oil salesmen. Yeah, I used to think the same thing years ago until I started testing with them.  The power cables and speaker ...
