What is the perferred material for a TT shelf?
I have a DIY rack from three 3 1/2 in butcher block. The block is manufactured by patching together about 60-80 squares of maple with the grain running in different directions. My thinking, if you can call it that, is that the different orientatio...
Helmholtz Resonators
Exactly what I'm facing. I have an alcove about 4' by 5', 7'high behind the left side of my listening position, full of deep bass. I have tri-trapped both corners but this situation persists. As I see it my options are either a Scopus tuned membra...
best value current production tonearm
I have a question and don't want to bother Vic. What is the range of cartridge compliance that works best with the Terminator/TP3 Pro? BTW I can't imagine any TT/tonearm which could be more straight forward as to setup and function. I hadn't had a...
if you had my system and $2,000 budgeted for an upgrade, where would you spend it?
Room Treatment. Floor to ceiling in the corners, first reflection points. I use GIK, they have very nice art panels. You can DIY it as well.  I, like you, made my own rack with 3.5 in butcher block and brass threaded rods. I will go along with Rau...

When I got back on the music appreciation hobby and researched everything for about a year, really researched it to the point of reading books on active crossovers, Floyd Toole, Jim Smith's Get Better Sound and a few more my prevailing thought was...

Amp Short List for Zu Definition Mk. IV
Mine just keep sounding smoother, the tweeters settle down after about a year, even more later.I’m running McIntosh MC60s made in the 1950s. Completely satisfied. All tube units upstream also.
Amp Short List for Zu Definition Mk. IV
Now that you have had them for a while, what do you think?
Opinions Needed!
The bass on my Zu Def4s is powered by an internal Hypex amp but it takes it’s input signal from the main amps. That does change with an amplifier change. I went from a tube amp to a class D amp while my McIntosh MC60s were being serviced and the b...
Outrageous used pricing on older McIntosh
I've had about 10-12 different Mac components over the years and currently run a pair of MC60s with Zu Definition 4s and it sums up what I'm looking for in my music listening world. I've had other brands but the Mac stuff sounds better to me.
New power cords for Vintage amps
Delayed here but many thanks. They look ok so just kept them as is.
Bass is not enough !!! Speaker problem? Speaker cable? Power Amp? PC of Power Amp?
One thing not mentioned-plug the power amp into the wall.Corner traps from GIK or other-a must. Go for it here!I have to have great bass also. Have moved my speakers, sometimes tenths of inches, sometimes feet. It really paid off. Listening seat a...

When is your Hifi good enough?
When it's ten at night, the lights are out,[the little LEDs on the equipment and the tubes on my Mac MC60s are enough]-and I don't have to get up the next day. I don't have an uber expensive system, but it blows me away. Good enough!
