Has this ever happened to you? Congratulations. I can't say this has happened to me exactly that way. But once I have gone through an upgrade cycle... my attention turns from the system to the music and there is typically a big sigh of relief and an appreciation of the music ...
A little puzzled by my newly acquired Yamaha A-S801 Just from my experiences with Yamaha and Rotel. That sounds about right. Rotel tends to have a more full bodied sound... it is generally an extremely good value for the money. Yamaha... especially in the very budget consumer category tends to soun...
Amp suggestion for Merlin TSM speakers @ht_fan "Every time I heard the Merlins they were on Joule electronics and sounded amazing with them!" Yes, that is what I heard them with as well and with the same result.
The Power Plant Regenerator debate drags on @carlsbad2 +1 Definitely ignore anything from ASR. I completely agree. Honestly, I take most of what Paul says with a grain of salt. He really likes to listen to himself talk. I have been in this pursuit for fifty years. I remember when the ...
Amplifier gain settings - what do they do? Amp on last so if a tube pops on startup or other large surge it will not go through the amplifier and damage the amp and or speakers. My Audio Research equipment is muted for 1.5 minutes on my preamp and 3.5 minutes on the amp... assuring the pre...
Power Amplifier - Maximum Resolution & Detail! @jkhjr Excellent comments! Pointing out the essence of the differences between some high end brands and of course Magico are the ultimate microscope through which to hear differences. Also, showing how matching is critical.
R2R next? Don't like ESS Just a note. Budget DACs tend to sound like the technology they use... but this difference disappears as you move up the ladder (hehe). So, as a guess DACs over $3.5K or so generally don't reflect the chip set or technology used. At this level, en...
A not sarcastic question for the power conditioner/upgraded power cord folks I have two direct lines, one for my power amp... which is plugged in directly and the other has my power conditioner where the other components are plugged in.
Amp suggestion for Merlin TSM speakers I have not heard Merlin's recently, but was very impressed and enjoyed them when I did. They were powered by tubes and sounded fantastic.
Choosing between 2 preamps I would work on speaker positioning. Your Audio Research Ref 75 has plenty of power for your speakers. Tube amps like this are very powerful. They have deep and nuanced low end.
How often to you clean vinyl and the needle? New or new to me used albums get cycle on the record cleaner with Last heavy duty cleaner and followed by Last Record Preservative . This typically only once. Quick surface clean with Last General Purpose cleaner and drop the needle into a stylis...
Request opinions on Totem speaker / McIntosh amplifier compatibility. I am a big fan of Totem speakers and have some in my office. If you think the McIntosh is a great match is really personal taste. Mcintosh lacks detail to me... it is just too bass and midrange heavy. I would thing with totem speakers... already ...
Looking for a simple system If I were you I would look for an integrated streamer (Streamer / DAC) integrated amp (preamp and amp). Having all four functions in one box I think it too much compromise and makes later upgrades difficult.
Preamp with separate volume control for each channel? @perkri +1
Best Used Tube Based Preamp $2k Or Under? I would go used. Audio Research Conrad Johnson Prima Luna As far up the model level you can go. No more than ten years or so old. |
