Maxell or TDK?
"The real trick was biasing the deck for a specific tape type"That's what I found out as well. My Pioneer CT-F1000 worked best with Maxell XLII-S.Now I'll have to dig out my tapes from the 70s and 80s and see how well they've held up.
32" television
"Sony XBR Wega" Aren't they discontinued? Anyway, it's the best picture quality I have ever seen; comparable to Pro monitors.
does import cds sound better
Don't know if import Redbook from the EU sounds better, but often there are some extra tracks added. In the case of Rock/Pop CDs they are still going to suffer from high compression (the Loudness Wars). The EU or British Rock releases I've purchas...
How many sq feet of diffusion do I need?
Not to flog a dead horse, but couldn't you hang one vertical panel on each side wall as seen in Krell_man's System photos. It looks like you have room for a panel to the left of the door or hang it on the door.IMO, that would absorb some standing ...
Critique my system...
As I reread your post I agree that the first step is to try some absorption room treatments. Acoustic wall panels, even furniture and rug placement can make a difference. As far as your preamp, I doubt that an ARC would add brightness to your system.

Right on, Krell_man. I'm using the same setup as you in my small room, except side walls are vertical. And your point is correct, he needs absorption, not diffusion. Panels can be flat foam, wedged, but not 3D. I'm using 2" offset wedged.examples
RIP Panny Plasmas
Brownsfan, I wish there was a LIKE button.

I think you mean they found some Nodes. I would do the same as you, do it in incremental steps. First of all, you need absorption on the side walls (the point of first reflection where sound from spkrs bounces off). On the right side, definitely ...

The CDP isn't in the same league as your pre and amps, but it's OK for now. You really need some good interconnects; changing them will make your system open up and affect the timbre (you may need to try a couple different brands).
RIP Panny Plasmas
It is a shame, since the reference monitors used by engineers and techs in TV and video facilities are plasma (and CRT). I've seen the change-over to LCD and now LED with their bright, artificial colors. Terrible.

It's 9 x 10 ft. and not meters, right? First question is, how does the room sound to you now...is it a "live room," meaning if you clap your hands, is the sound reflected like an echo? I can see that your walls are probably reflecting sound.Second...
Rega Elicit R w/PSB speakers
That Bryston only has 180W into 4 ohms. I think a Bryston would be a good amp to drive PSBs, but remember the Synch One's impedance drops below 4 ohms, so I would think it might need higher power; it depends on the size of the power supply of that...
Do I Have the Wrong Cartridge?
Oops...I confused you w. Raul
Do I Have the Wrong Cartridge?
Thanks Wolf. Also your Cartridge Thread is a wealth of info that we're lucky to have in the archives.
Do I Have the Wrong Cartridge?
Wolf, I appreciate your answer. Even the salesman recommended a Sumiko, even though he doesn't sell them. But do to a vision problem, I can't see closeup to mount a cart myself, so I'm looking at B&M stores.Question for you; do you have any ex...
