Technics sp10 mrk2 or SL-1200mrkII
Mike, Technics created a complete turntable system around the SP-10 which they called the SL-1000 MK II. It includes a custom base made of a black glasslike material they call obsidian, a hinged dustcover and the EPA 100 tonearm. And, of course, t...
Best DIY tweak?
Replace steel speaker driver screws with solid brass screws; dramatic results! That's not a tweak, man.......that's a mod. Where's your entrepreneurial spirit?
Buying a 10 years old loudspeaker
Just like with 10 year old cars, you have to take it on a case by case basis. One owner is a good sign. There are forty year old speakers that have been in the same room their entire lives and three year old units that have shipped cross country 4...
Verity Audio Parsifal vs. Aerial 10T
Keep the Totems and look for improvement in other areas.
Would I gain anything?
Thanks, everybody. Since these speakers are "extra", I guess I'll forgo the temptation to mess with them. Currently they are providing voice for a Yamaha P-120 electric piano. My fantasy concerned elevating their performance to a level where they ...

Dan_ed, Thanks for the links. I didn't see my answer yet but I'll keep looking.
Would I gain anything?
I tried to explore the Heritage website and found it was too dense for me to navigate. I was unable to find my topic and didn't understand the layout at all. I also find Audio Asylum to be more trouble than it is worth. Am I missing something abou...
Mono Block tube amp or Stereo Tube amplifier?
Bojack - I don't know if RUSH uses tubes and I certainly don't know why they use tubes. But if I had to guess I would say it is because of the way they can make them distort. The point I tried to convey is that tubes are better able to provide the ...
Mono Block tube amp or Stereo Tube amplifier?
Start with why you want tubes. Then think about how much you can spend. Personally I believe that tubes are for acoustic music. I see no reason why anyone would benefit from reproducing heavy metal at 95 db with tubes. That is SS territory. Tubes ...
To stack or not to stack - limited space for amps
The only problems this could cause would be cosmetic. Little rubber feet can leave permanent marks on the top of the lower amp. Other potential problem lies in the fact that some speaker cables weigh more than certain Class D amps.

Wwwrecords has it right. You can remove most of the anxiety from this whole process by just buying used product judiciously and stair-stepping your way up. It is entirely possible to make money on these exchanges but just avoiding a loss is victor...

Dcstep says:I'm assuming that you're a hobbiest. If so, then anything that you do will be half baked vs. a designer that's spent his whole career designing the best circuits that he knows how to make.I say:Jeff Rowland is still a hobbyist and noth...

Key word is "claims". Dcstep is right -- you look pretty helpless. Go to a dealer.

There are wolves in storefronts too. And the notion that you're going to keep gear still prevails in me even though I've disproved that belief hundreds of times. There's always something new or different. You can bet that Chap_cat is replacing "ke...

It's a cold fact that somebody is going to take a depreciation hit on most new equipment purchases and you can bet the queen's keyster it will be the original purchaser. This is reason enough to avoid buying new equipment at retail. If you can get...
