I Cried Today
Lovely.    Thank you for sharing that.    Goosebumps and watery eyes…
I’m getting a hum in my integrated tube amp and it’s bugging me alot
Since the hum appears after the tubes warm up, and not immediately, it sounds like a tube issue to me. Is the problem in both channels, or just one? And just to confirm, the sound is coming from the speakers, and not from the amp. Is that right?
New pre-amplifier?
Why, would a manufacturer risk their reputation in this day and age, when anything even remotely underhanded is reported all over the internet? Perhaps, you should go to the factory, and watch them build the unit and package it up for you? Compa...
Looking for an all-in-one just-add-speakers streamer for my son to take to college
This was just released…   https://www.wiimhome.com/wiimamp/overview
Do you think driver “break in” is real?
Put on a new pair of jeans, or shoes.   not so comfortable. After a couple of days of use, they get better.    Break in is very real. As an avid DIY builder of audio gear, it’s obvious to me how much benefit a driver will have from  break in o...
At what price is one considered an Audiophile.
It’s not a $$$’s spent thing.   It’s the pursuit of accurately reproducing music with sound equipment.   That accuracy, can be empirically based, or, emotionally based. Meaning, one can try to reproduce the sound of an acoustic guitar as it wo...
All Pre 1970 Vintage speakers suck! Prove me wrong
Looks like the lion is nothing more than a little pussy   cat.   Where is the lion hiding?
budget diy tube preamp beating many expensive preamps... problem with my system?
Don’t underestimate a DIY amp, properly designed and built. Especially Bottlehead. Not paying for the distribution network, a fancy box, or the labor to assemble it.
Question: What are some of your best pieces of advise to someone new to the hobby?
Listen to as many types of speakers and amps as possible.  Horn loaded, open baffle, sealed, ported, electrostatics, multi driver, single driver, high efficiency. Single ended tubes, push pull tubes, high power, low power, Class A solid state, cl...
All Pre 1970 Vintage speakers suck! Prove me wrong
Let me start by saying this is an absolutely idiotic premise for discussion. Now, I’m going to listen to either my Cornwalls, or ESL57’s, and get some popcorn as I watch this unfold…
Corner base trap- to the ceiling?
Try running a 50 or 60 hz tone through your system and walk around the room.    Get low in the room , and get high up in the room.    It’s crazy how dramatically the tone changes.
Looking for Turntable Reccomendations
@mijostyn    :) Yeah. I think I qualify! Built some Bib enclosures for a pair of Fostex Fe168Ez that I assembled last night.    Part of my love of this hobby is getting to listen to so many different speaker/amp combos.    I do really love t...
Looking for Turntable Reccomendations
@mijostyn    As I was going to suggest a heavy plinth Lenco, I wonder why you would suggest staying away from one? I built one, and it’s modded with some of my own design details, including a dedicated dynamic isolation platform. It is a fantas...
? about Smoking Power Amp
Did you pull the cover(s) off it and take a look inside it? A visual inspection might be a good idea. If there are seriously burned “bits”, you will see them :)
After a long, long sleep: ML-335
Yeah, I would power it up with some care. At a minimum, make a dim bulb tester. But a Variac is the way to go. Capacitors that have been sitting so long, may not like the surge of power that the transformer will be dumping into them. Would really ...
