What is this speaker doing right? Look at all the nearly unanimous praise heaped on the LS50's. It's the epitome of what I've come to call the "modern sound". Some of us are coming to the conclusion that older models (or older designs) with a different design or design goals, so...
Harbeth 40.2 OR Spendor Classic 100 OR ?? @riaa... Plain Jane. That was what was in the showroom. I like the extra "air" from positioning well away from boundaries, and doing that to the AN's just loses too much of the bass reinforcement. Plus I really don't need high sensitivity. Bu...
A DAC that crushes price vs. performance ratio Lab12 has been around for a while, and is known in Europe. It's now got a couple of toes in the US market. Mainly tube gear, plus this DAC, plus a very interesting power conditioner that I was very seriously considering. It wouldn't surprise me i...
David Lewis Audio--any customer experiences? It's just that I was looking on Google Maps, and some photos of the inside of the store showed up. Judging from them, the rooms looked rather too small to let largish floorstanders develop properly.
Looking For 90% of the performane of the super expensive cables for much less money @geoffkait You missed Audio Sensibility.
Another amateur in need of advice You're much more likely to damage a speaker by driving it with something truly underpowered than with something supposedly--according to the specs--overpowered.Call up Johnny Rutan at Audio Connection in NJ and talk to him about the Aria.
Does hearing the best in high end audio make your opinions more valid? Oh no! What do Sonarquest plugs sound like? More like Wattgate or Furutech. Feeling anxious.
Harbeth 40.2 OR Spendor Classic 100 OR ?? Thanks to all. With the Daedalus, I guess we're talking the Argos or the Ulysses, right? I've read about them but never been able to listen. They have quite a following on Audio Circle. I think I saw they were coming to the Capital AudioFest i...
Best used speakers under $10000 As a current Twenty.24 owner, very interested to hear your impression of the Twenty5.26.
Another amateur in need of advice The Belles Aria Integrated would be an excellent choice. Also the Vandersteen Ici's are $1350 new. There are considerable savings to be had in the used speaker market.
Another amateur in need of advice @cleanshirt At the most basic level, think of it as a series of boxes, some of which are packaged together, while others stand separate.CD transportDACTurntable+cartridgePhono preamp [amplifies signal from cartridge]PreampPower ampCD transport+DA...
Have you ever changed speakers to expereince a different "soundscape" or presentation?? Yes, on my first audition of the Harbeth 40.2's. They trounced by previous "favs", the Vienna Acoustics Liszt's. Above all, in the "holographic" department. Almost spooky in that regard. (A large room didn't hurt...)
Best used speakers under $10000 If you possibly can, try to listen to *both* the D9 and the Classic 100, and see which one you prefer. A lot of what you list in the OP sounds like Classic 100 to me.
narrow and wide baffles and imaging So what we need is a 19" front baffle? An additional advantage is we can then install a nice large front-firing woofer.
Recommendations for CD Player/DAC Combo Bucking the general trend, just placed my order for a Bryston BCD-3. Exclusively red-book; no digital inputs. Just fine with me. |
