Why would someone feel the need to comment unpleasant things on sale posts
Sadly the idiots among us are all feeling empowered these days.     Mentally unstable and or mentally ill persons tend to compulsively demand affirmation and can be very destructive.     as in all cases and places ignore the fools and soldier on...
Real or Surreal. Do you throw accuracy out the window for "better" sound?
It seems the better my gear the more disappointing the recordings.    The inherent problem with the HiFi journey is that it’s build on dissatisfaction.
Audio Research Financial Troubles
One thing that struck me while reading the receivership documents was how little ARC really is.  I seriously doubt it ever really made net income after salaries. Bill Johnson didn’t get rich and the last 3 owners didn’t either.    I’m reminded of...
Audio Research Financial Troubles
The reason there are a lot of ARC products for sale right now: 1) 50+ years of mass production (yes had built but massive production) means LOTS of components worldwide are for sale 2) We are in a global slowdown. Especially Europe where ARC sol...
DAC DIRECT IN TO AMPLIFIER OR TO PREAMPLIFIER
Paul; Here is my most recent experience on topic: I used an Audio Research SP15 as my preamp, an entry level DAC (Suncoz) to smooth my CD and hard drive inputs. I was dissatisfied. I bought a PS Audio Perfect Wave DAC/streamer which is also a fi...
Contact for Price
I view this the same as I view a presumptuously high asking price. Hard pass.
I need advice on Dissimilar runs using XLR
The results are in. I ran 1m Audioquest speaker cables from my solid state woofer amps. This necessitated one XLR from the crossover being 20' and the other 4'. I could not hear any differences between the L & R channel. I reversed the cables...
Help and opinions needed on pre-amp situation
I love separates and love my ARC SP15 but the reality is that a preamp is becoming a dinosaur and is unnecessary to a great HiFi experience due to the leaps in quality in the digital world.
I Am Not an Audio Snob
The snob accusation is usually born of envy which is pride manifest. Ignore them. As far as audio gear is concerned unless you are uber rich- the 1/100th of 1%ers you probably don't have $100K speakers with $10,000 cables hooked to three $35,000 ...
The greatest Pop song yet written and recorded.
In 1974 Elvis was considered a rock/pop star- so stretching the definition a bit I'd say American Trilogy live from Hawaii. If it's pure bubblegum Thriller and the entire rest of the album by the same name is outstanding.
Does the Audio press ever excite you anymore?
Heck no! They have run out of new silly superlatives to say the same old thing. Basically they have become sold out shills for the highest bidder (advertiser) and untrustworthy.  The other thing that bugs me is the underlying 60 cycle hum  of "y...
RIP Jimmy Buffett
Great storyteller and writer. A great businessman too apparently. Who knew you could become a billionaire by playing bar tunes?  Funny story...my username is a line from A Pirate Looks At 40. I tried to buy some expensive gear from a dealer in NY...
dac and streamer or seperates
Moors Law is something to consider:  DAC/Streamers are changing for the better very rapidly. As such they are depreciating rapidly due to almost instant obsolesce. Think flat screen TVs.  If being smart with your money matters at this point in yo...
Watermelon test for audiophiles!
Placing a properly ripened watermelon atop your sub woofer adds audible radiant dynamics. If you don't have a sub you can place them atop your towers or by the bass port for a similar dynamic. Audiophile Research sells a tuned gold plated signatur...
Am I wasting money on the theory of Bi-amping?
I believe that you get value from bi-amping speakers that are designed to be bi-amped and have a proper complimentary crossover- preferably made by the speaker manufacturer for that particular set of speakers.  Because there are so many variables...
