Janis Joplin
What's in your CDP tonight? the minority report
I enjoy vinyl and digital (lately, with recent changes, vinyl actually sounds better than digital to me), BUT given what seems an overall preference for analog/vinyl on A'gon, I'm curious what the non-vinyl "1/2" is listening to. I tried to see if this was a previously posted question. Did not seem so.
This evening for me, it's Genesis (definitive edition remaster) "A Trick of the Tail".

This Will Destroy You - S/T 10th anniversary re-issue (on Tidal) Thanks to my friend Pokey77 for the recommendation. They Move On Tracks of Never-Ending Light (track 6) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fp2xrgojTxo |
Listening again to Lars Danielsson’s, Liberetto. Track 1, Yerevan, has a Jon Hassell-like sound courtesy of Arve Henriksen; not exactly typical of the rest of the album but very enjoyable none the less. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1YQ5WfJuEI |

The Ahmad Jamal Trio - The Awakening The music and performances on this (almost) 50 year old recording still seem very fresh (more so than the artwork ;-) https://www.discogs.com/The-Ahmad-Jamal-Trio-The-Awakening/release/1038746 |
No @jafant Don’t have that one. The Awakening caught my ear a while back but, otherwise, not all that deep into Ahmad Jamal. Will see if I can find Live at the Pershing on Tidal or Spotify and give a listen. Thanks for the suggestion. Edit...found it on Tidal and realize I’d listened to some of this when I first "discovered" Ahmad (not all that long ago, for me). It is indeed a good "document" displaying the excellent musicianship of a young AJ. Thanks again. |
Okay! @jafant Found Blue Moon on Spotify, (but not on Tidal). Isn’t a problem though, the recording quality is very, very good with lots of liveliness even listening via Spotify. Was hooked by Autumn Rain from the get go; Blue Moon which I read is classic Rodger’s & Hart’s from 1934! isn’t a way too familiar luke-warm chestnut...great arrangement and performance. All About Jazz is complimentary about the contribution of percussionist Manola Bedrena. For me, however, I’m finding him kinda repetitive (e.g., "Invitation") and, elsewhere, busy and intrusive. But what do I know. AAJ, in the Blue Moon review mentions as comparably excellent an earlier recording: A Quiet Time. Will have to give this a listen too. Must still look up your Saturday Morning recommendation. |
