Came out exactly 5 years ago NYJG "Method to the Madness"
NYJG stands for New York Jazz Guerilla(www.nyjg.de). Mix of all blends of jazz from mainstream acoustic to electronic and asid. Album built very and very intresting like a jazz party.
Exactly at the same time came out on ECM label Molvaer Nils Petter "Khmer". Exceptional musicmanship and realy the music of 23rd century. Revolutional blend of Miles Davis-ish trumpet and ambient.
Pretty much anything by Brad Mehldau. I will go out on a limb and say that he is probably the most talented musician playing in the field today. It's like impossible for the guy to play an unmelodic note.

James Carter - 'Chasin' the Gypsy'

Carter is my favorite youngish jazz musician. He has incredible chops and his albums are all quite different and wonderful. I like all of them, but especially this tribute to Django Reinhardt. It is beautiful and amazing, both musically and sonically.
Wynton Marsalis Septet - Live at the Village Vanguard

I predict this will stand the test of time. It is a definitive performance of the neo-traditional voice of Jazz at the turn of the century.
Night and the City, Kenny Barron and the Charlie Haden Quartet West. Stunning live recording from 1998.
If you mean a non-reissue in the last 5 years, then I would say either Wayne Shorter's Footprints or for an album that might just change jazz in the long-run...the Bad Plus "These Are the Vistas"

On the other hand...the best jazz released in the last 5 years are probably re-issues, oh well
"I'm Beginning To See the Light" by Martin Taylor and David Grisman on Acoustic Disc.

Absolutely supurb swinging jazz with great fidelity. Martin Taylor played guitar with Stephanne Grapelli for many years so it's got some of that Django Reinhardt feel, but the music is more modern and cool. Grisman is the master of jazz mandolin (and great recordings via his in home studio).

It's often filed under David Grisman and Martin Taylor. That is how Amazon lists it.
Ahmad Jamal- Olympia 2000. with Idris Muhammad-drums,
George Coleman-tenor sax and James Cammark-bass.
Recorded live in Paris.
Hey, everybody: Extremely hip posts. For me, in the last five years, I have to say that Benny Green's stuff with Christian McBride and Carl Allen do it for me. I just think that Green swings HARD!
Dave Holland Quintet - Not for Nothin', saw them twice during their tour following this release, awesome
cassandra wilson's last cd "belly of the sun" This is the cd that should have won 8 grammys (not Norah Jones).
