Zu Soul Superfly

I just ordered a pair of the new Zu speakers on a whim. I was going to wait for information, but the fact that they threw in the free superfly upgrades to the first 30 people got me.

From a similar thread it sounds like some of you guys have heard the speaker despite information only being released today. I'm wondering what you can share about it?

Also, I am really hoping it works with a Firstwatt F1 amplifier. Can anyone comment as to that? I know the Druid's and Essences worked OK.

tipped up tonal balance, thinning of the wonderful harmonic development these speakers are capable of, just an edgy yet non-defined, unemotional sound.

I turned off my rig after 20 minutes of listening tonight in favor of finding something on TV... I gotta get my balance back... I thought I was close but I'm completely unsatisfied again... Sigh.

Maybe its just this difficult because I'm bad at it, but the fact that Zu haters have enjoyed my rig should mean something.

Gopher......same problem for me now! Changed pre-amps, changed to a different version of the Frankenstein, and my magic has gone now also!

Thankfully, I have a Dodd Pre-amp mkii on the way and am going to start tweaking placement again..........until I read your details, I thought I was just imagining it all!

I hope the gear swapping helps you lock things in, but the problems I'm referring to are more of the room interaction variety. When properly set up it is difficult to make the Zus sound bad via associated equipment, IMO.

I'm thinking of trying some of those herbies decouplers or threaded gliders for my Souls (on carpet). Supposedly a sonic up tick and if nothing else it may make it easier to experiment with placement to lock my sound.

I 100% agree. Before I made the last change, my system was sounding spectacular. However, as I know you know, I would disagree with anyone who says that speaker placement is easy with these Zu's!

I agree with both Gopher & Morganc, placement can be tough. I moved my furniture around a bit for a different look for the Christmas tree and all and things sounded better! Nice surprise. Gopher,I read about u using some Wywire cables in place of Zu mission cables that I use too. Is there a big diff in the sound? I'm just reading up on the Wywires, there not cheap. Also interested in the Eastern Electric minimax dac to maybe replace my idecco. Although I use the idecco in the summertime so I don't have to run the Cayin tube amp. Any thoughts on that swap?
