Jazz for aficionados

Jazz for aficionados

I'm going to review records in my collection, and you'll be able to decide if they're worthy of your collection. These records are what I consider "must haves" for any jazz aficionado, and would be found in their collections. I wont review any record that's not on CD, nor will I review any record if the CD is markedly inferior. Fortunately, I only found 1 case where the CD was markedly inferior to the record.

Our first album is "Moanin" by Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers. We have Lee Morgan , trumpet; Benney Golson, tenor sax; Bobby Timmons, piano; Jymie merrit, bass; Art Blakey, drums.

The title tune "Moanin" is by Bobby Timmons, it conveys the emotion of the title like no other tune I've ever heard, even better than any words could ever convey. This music pictures a person whose down to his last nickel, and all he can do is "moan".

"Along Came Betty" is a tune by Benny Golson, it reminds me of a Betty I once knew. She was gorgeous with a jazzy personality, and she moved smooth and easy, just like this tune. Somebody find me a time machine! Maybe you knew a Betty.

While the rest of the music is just fine, those are my favorite tunes. Why don't you share your, "must have" jazz albums with us.

Enjoy the music.

You are quibbling.

“More than 1700 Luftwaffe (German air force) planes were destroyed. The 2662 German casualties included many experienced aircrew, and the Luftwaffe never fully recovered from the reverse it suffered in August-October 1940. The Royal Air Force (RAF) lost 1250 aircraft, including 1017 fighters.”

That was the turning point.

Pjw and Rok, you guys are concerned about "welfare cheats" but find 700 billion of your money, our money going to Wall Street OK. That sounds backwards to me. I say you both have been programmed to think positive for the rich and negative for the poor; you look down on the poor, but admire the rich swindlers, the "flim flam" men.

New BMW's can cost from 50 to 100,000; I don't know which one's you saw, but I "double dog" guarantee you they did not belong to a welfare recipient. While you saw them in that neighborhood, and it's possible to have seen a Lamborghini in that neighborhood, it didn't belong to a "welfare recipient",  a dope dealer most likely; he's someone who couldn't make it on Wall Street and chose the Black mans path to riches.

He sells dope to the people who can't cope with the insanity in the ghetto that is the direct result of "economic racism" in this country; poverty that has been passed down for centuries from one generation to the next. Now lower middle class white people (the real middle class is more affluent and less racist) have someone to look down on and feel superior to.

BoB was NOT the turning point and the UK could never have defeated Germany alone. The Brits were in no way capable, in the fall of 1940, to invade northwest Europe so they panned and carried out bombing rins over Germany which was a dismal failure.

In the 10 raids bomber command launched against Berlin between June and November 1941, 133 Germans were killed compared with casualties in the RAF of 3 times that much. At the same time British aircraft losses in 1941, mostly bombers, were more then double those in 1940 - (1,034 vs 492)
By all means, its kind of pointless to argue about history from a simple point of personal opinion, let alone on jazz forum.
Than again, we have these subjects mentioned every now and than but its never quite clear to me what is the purpose of it and what exactly we should discuss about.
Op is concerned about decline of middle class and rule of economic oligarchy that effects us all, Rok is usually just beeing Rok and now the others are starting to share their belifs, which is a great way to poison the thread by some bad emotions.
I really think that we should not follow that path, or perhaps, we should open new ’political’ sub thread, but away from jazz.
I dont mind at all when somebody shares his memories even if not in context of music, but if such thoughts are going to open bitter responds, one should know better not do do it, at least here.
Life is too short and there are very few people here already, it would be shame if we destroy such a fragile coexistence between very different people and peronalitys.
Mojih pet para na tu temu....

Paul and Orpheus, this might be the interesting book for you...despite some controverial thoughts I think that our objective reality confirms it...
