Don't sell your tube amps
Glad I hung onto my Mid Monos ... they are perfectly suited to drive my new Omega Super Alnico Monitors that I will receive in a few months.
No HDMI out from 4K 85" Sony
Maybe something to do with ARC or digital audio settings.  Try tuning ARC off in the Sony
How rare is an audiophile
Yeah, I really don't know any locally...  none of my co-workers, friends , or family.
Sometimes more is not better -or- Ethernet Overkill
More than one person has told me Cat8 can cause noise and ground issues. I had issues with my DAC and Streamer.  Not always locking onto the signal with hi rez sources     Removed Cat8 , put 5e in and no problems
Poll: Most impactful component
I agree with Roxy54 in the Preamp being the Soul....   my most dramatic upgrades have been preamps .  A good pre is crucial to great sound.   Yes there are some DACs that function as a preamp , some very good ones , but I really think there is no ...
Poll: Most impactful component
Let's say you have your speaker / room interaction and placement ironed out , the Preamp is the most impactful "component" .    Don't believe me?  Insert a world class preamp into just about any system and you may be in for a shock.
6DJ8 vs. 6922?
I have actually been trying to get away from this tube.   As Lynn Olson mentioned earlier they were never made for audio use, and are very inconsistent  The good ones are $$$.   A lot of “NOS” are pulls from test equipment and military surplus el...
6DJ8 vs. 6922?
As I mentioned earlier some gear is hard on tubes so NOS 6dj8 probably aren’t a good choice.  You want to use a 6922 , a ruggedized 6dj8   The Voskhod 6n23 tubes of the 70s are super rugged and last.  Those are what I used in my CJ Classic 2se
6DJ8 vs. 6922?
Some of my favorite 6dj8 are the early 60s Mazda.   I had a pair of these from Brent Jessee and they sounded incredible.  Unfortunately they had kind of a short life in my CJ preamp.  That thing was hard on tubes.    I replaced those with some mi...
Pyxi phono stages, two systems.
I just bought a Sota Escape a few months ago and was trying to find someone who stocked the Pyxi.   I think they may have had production delays .  In the end I bought a Sutherland KC Vibe and it's been great.    I'm doing a second system , I have...
Your audiophile chair
Zero gravity power recliner….   Gotta be careful listening to LPs when in this chair….   It’s easy to fall asleep when reclined
300b lovers
I think it’s very cool that there is a type of renaissance with DHT amps.  I wish Don the best in this new venture
Is there a ceiling limit on what you are willing to pay for an audio component?
I only buy something if I have the cash.  I may put it on a credit card but only for the cash back or extended warranty.   If I don’t have the cash in hand, I do not buy it.
Is there a ceiling limit on what you are willing to pay for an audio component?
I often bought used, traded, flipped stuff but I am at a point where my kids are grown and my bills are low.   That said , about two years ago I started a major upgrade.    I spent more than i originally budgeted , but I am at the point where it ...
Question about wpc on tube amps
I would say most tube amps aren't practical for Maggie's in most cases.  I would definitely suggest looking into a tube preamp ,  it will allow you to experience and experiment with tubes and still have plenty of power for your speakers.
