Survey-What is your most used source? Hate to admit it, but CD/SACD/DAD probably leads the pack by a narrow margin, followed very closely by my turntable and my tuner. It is more convenient than records, that's the main reason. But if I start listening to vinyl, I generally won't list...
beethoven 9th..which recording Mg123, the back cover will have a copyright-type logo toward the bottom which will show the date of the recording. Was the 77 recording analog or digital, anyone aware? I have the '63 recording both on CD and vinyl, and it's an excellent performan...
Best Integrated Amp I agree with Trelja in that the Jadis integrateds are the best sounding ones I have heard, although I have not heard the Goldmund, Gryphon or Pathos units. Given your speakers and their power requirements, though, they may not give you quite the p...
Amazing Solo Piano Recordings Frogman, excellent suggestion, I'd forgotten about how good that one was--now I've got to listen to it again. And you can even spell his name, something I sure can't do. You should give his recent Goldberg Variations a listen--it gets better every...
Modifications to digital ... SCD777ES Can't comment on other mods, but, as I've noted in other posts, I've had the Jerry Ozment/Audio Logic tube output stage added to my unit, bypassing the Sony analog stage and its op-amps and power supplies, and am very pleased with the results. If ...
Amazing Solo Piano Recordings Rushton's suggestions are excellent. They sound excellent on CD as well (the Connoisseur Society ones have been issued by VAI, and are among the most natural recordings of a piano you'll ever hear on CD). In addition, the most spectacularly dynami...
Power for Innersound Isis That's Roger, all right! I don't have the guts to take him up on his challenge myself. Although tube amps tend to clip more gracefully than solid state, you'd probably notice the sound becoming "hard", or congested or glarey, on loud passages or t...
Where can I get small apogee speakers? I don't own them, but I have heard them and, as I've said on other posts, think they're something special, particularly when driven by the Red Rose (Audio Prism) electronics. Good bass extension for a small box, but probably better suited for smal...
Power for Innersound Isis If you talked with him, I'm sure he recommended his power amp as well. I know two Innersound speaker owners who are very happy with the Innersound amp. If you can afford it, worth an audition.
Which Sony dvd playr is a good CD playr The S9000 (the SACD one) will output a 24/96 signal from its digital out, I believe--check the many posts on this unit, it has gotten a lot of good feedback. And you get SACD too. Your last question is a little confusing--for a signal to be "upsam...
Basis TT Opinions I'll chime in with a couple of observations. I've owned an Ovation for about 10 years, and have heard the 2001 and 2500 tables and agree with Mes' description of the ease of use and excellent sound from them. One consideration between the 2000 and...
Best Bach St. Matthews Passion There is an excellent recent Harmonia Mundi recording of this work (Herrewghe/Collegium Vocale Gent), typically fine HM sound and an excellent performance, which has a lot of extras with it -- a CD-ROM, a booklet, etc. Another highly regarded one ...
Cable observations ....Cardas NBS I find Asa right on the money about the way that NBS cables work with tubed equipment. I bought a pair of NBS Monitor 0 running between my Jadis preamp and amplifiers and was extremely happy with how they let through much more detail without losin...
Where can I get small apogee speakers? It certainly isn't small as a bookshelf speaker, but I think the Stage may have been as small or smaller than the Centaur Minor.
I need the more better digital Forsell or CEC TX1 transport, Audio Logic 2400 DAC; much less sterile, and much more involving, than the brands you mentioned. You could add a DCS Purcell to that as well, to increase the harmonic richness of your CDs. Or else go with a turntable ... |
