So much Bach, where do I start?
That one's my favorite; usually they're two to a CD. One more thing I just thought of, you might want to ease your way into Bach's keyboard music through Stokowski's orchestral transcriptions of some of those works (remember the opening Toccatta a...
So much Bach, where do I start?
I agree with Sugarbrie, particularly on the Pinnock recommendation for the Brandenburgs, my favorite for its vitality. Rilling's recordings are on the Hanssler label, pretty well recorded and fine interpretations. I suggest you get the Magnificat,...
Music trivia anyone?
Frogman, I'll give you points, but it was 2 out of 3 (the last one was a little bit of a trick question). Steve Katz was the lead guitarist for BST, but NOT the Blues Project, where he was the rhythm guitarist (as we called them back then). Lead g...
Music trivia anyone?
Undertaker, I'll try again, you got me looking through my old Beatles albums. Would you consider Anil Bhagwat, the tabla player on "Love You To" from the Revolver album, to be a "featured" artist? I was going to guess the clarinetist from "When I'...
Music trivia anyone?
Undertaker, in answer to your Beatles question (2), does Revolution No. 9 (no. 9, no.9, no.9) count as a song?
Music trivia anyone?
This is a nice thread. Undertaker, on your (1) Beatles question, I don't think Ravi Shankar played the sitar on "Within You, Without You", did he? If not, I seem to recall that Eric Clapton played on one of their White Album cuts--was it "While My...
Best Pressing Recommendations Please
I just got my copy of Led Zep 1 from Classic Records the other day, will let you know how it compares, but would expect it to be a superior reissue.
Best Pressing Recommendations Please
I agree with both of the posts above. The Classic reissues have been criticized in the past for being less sweet or lush sounding than the originals, but they're just getting you closer to the master tape, IMO. They are quieter, more dynamic and h...
Is shielding cables that important?
I agree with Sugarbrie about the VDH cables, that was my observation as well. Same is true with the Kimber PBJ vs. their KC-1. Most reviewers seem to feel that the PBJ sounds better. If what you've got works well, I wouldn't worry about it at this...
The Best DeKay - Copper or Silver Wire?
I did extensive testing of the DeKay silver speaker cables and found them to be the best of the lot tested, followed, in order, by the De-L, De-M, De-N, De-O and De-P cables, respectively. And you thought this post couldn't get worse.......
Fly in the SACD Ointment?
Jkoestner, I think you're right, although I'm certainly hoping that DSD doesn't sound as bad as those early DDD recordings did! Actually, there are a lot of great analog recordings out there which could sound equally great on SACD, there just aren...
Sony SACD Monsters: Already Obsolete?
Joyfulsound--Massvm is correct. The Sony 9000ES plays SACD and DVD-Video (such as the Classic and Chesky 24/96 DADs), but will not play DVD-A discs. Still too early in the format competition for Sony to admit DVD-A exists! CW, there are a lot of p...
Fly in the SACD Ointment?
I agree with Onhwy61 about being encouraged by the appearance of SACD in a more prominent place at Tower. A few months ago, it was with the minidiscs in the pop section at Tower here in NY, virtually out of sight. As far as Cwlondon's point, I've ...
How much does your system retail for?
I was wondering, has this thread been started so we can be blackmailed to keep this information from being revealed to our significant others?????
How much does your system retail for?
This is surprising to me, including all the spare NOS tubes I keep (at what they cost now, not when new), I'm close to $135K. A lot of this I bought when it cost less years ago, and most I got used so I've spent far less than the current list pric...
