Best DIY silver solder? Just a small point for future reference, Rocket. The term "silver solder" refers to a brazing process, using "solder" which flows at high temperature (450 C, 850 F) and up. The process is intermediate between soldering and welding.
Doh, left system off all night Erik, I find the same thing with my Class A amps. They continue to improve (logarithmically) for about 10 hours, but are listenable after one. Oddly enough, the SS preamp is pretty stable after 5 minutes.
Tapping on my table There are two issues here, IMO. First is the stability of the cabinet, which is a function of construction, TT mass, and the ratio of the height to the smaller of depth and width. The second is sinking transients to ground. The solution which I fou...
Can I put a 60" tv behind my Magnepan 3.7i speakers? ebm, if that comment was directed at me, I can say that a little experimentation and a little research are the keys. I have good imaging and depth, and a far better movie experience than any theatre short of IMAX.
Can I put a 60" tv behind my Magnepan 3.7i speakers? Yes. I put my flat panel right between, and 20 inches behind, two pairs of big new quads. I wanted the plane of the screen to be near the plane of the speakers to synchronize sound and motion.
Treble panel for Quad 57 electostatic loudspeaker nyame, you are the best!
Mogami wire quality? co, according to the physics (Maxwell's Equations), capacitance is the great enemy at line level, while inductance is the enemy for speaker cables (because current is so much higher at the speakers). So low capacitance for tonearm wire and interco...
What's been playing on your turntable and what turntable is it ? "Salve Feste Dies", sealed promo copy, a Gregorian chant. Played on my all air diy TT.
Resale value The only profit I ask for, is listening pleasure. The pleasure that one has experienced can never be taken away.
What drugs do you use to enhance your listening experience? Wow, I'm in awe of you guys. Handling valuable records and cuing expensive cartridges is something I can just about handle when I'm stone cold sober. Yeah, a Cote Rotie would be nice, but the damage would not be.
Rushton's DIY approach to ultrasonic record cleaning published by Positive Feedback Logical, Rushton.May I suggest cleaning 30 previously cleaned records in new chemistry, under the new regimen? Then you will be able to see how much extra grunge comes off, as well as hear it. You may find that it's not worth the trouble - but I s...
Rushton's DIY approach to ultrasonic record cleaning published by Positive Feedback Hello Rushton. Thanks for the update. At those spacings, any record that was not perfectly flat would not be cleaned optimally at either frequency. The calculation is very simple: wavelength = velocity / frequency. Since the speed of sound in water...
Rushton's DIY approach to ultrasonic record cleaning published by Positive Feedback @bcowen Longevity is a very good point, bc. I have about 500 hours of US on my Elma, and it still looks near new - but then it's made for continuous use, 8 hours a day 5 days a week.
Rushton's DIY approach to ultrasonic record cleaning published by Positive Feedback @ochremoon Hello Ochre. It depends on the energy distribution in the tank, and the actual US energy delivered to the chemistry. That is something you get (and pay for, alas) with a lab grade unit. And, of course, enough space for the wave to devel...
Rushton's DIY approach to ultrasonic record cleaning published by Positive Feedback Sleeves. I should have mentioned sleeves.I like to use distinctive new sleeves for two reasons: first, new is clean; second, a distinctive sleeve signals that the record has been cleaned, averting that agonizing decision about a two foot long row ... |
