US made DACs looking better and better.
Unfortunately it is all a scam to make up for the loss during Covid shutdown. Major companies are being fined and many companies are under government scrutiny and ready to explode. ELAC for example is offering a 25% off for most products that they raised the price price 2+ months ago. You still end up purchasing at same or more than before! China stopped manufacturing over a year ago, So there is no reason for this. Even carriers are taking advantage of this and is all a scam. The key to solving all of this is not to buy anything and then everything will drop in price unless a priority to maintaining life. |
I have 40 years of China export business and all of this a ploy to make an additional profit. I had visited China several times a year. My suppliers only shut down for 3 to 6 months a year and half ago. They are all electronic manufacturers. So there is no excuse except to make up for those couple of months of loss revenue! Most suppliers are using this as an excuse to benefit for Covid and make additional dollars to improve margins! |
Not many u.s made dacs That are superior to the Denafrips Terminator-2 with their Gaia, or Hermes DDC over clocker thee reclocker work well with other brands also I sold my current U.S made dac and it was not even that close and the U.S made dac -Streamer was $6500 the Term-2 with Hermes reclocker was only $5700 how many US companies can you get dual oven clocks in both dac and overclocker for this price loaded with name brand parts ? That’s why I bought it High Quality and Value. |
This comment is deeply misinformed. While I have no doubt Chinese suppliers are trying to grab a bit of extra margin, prices for semiconductors, capacitors, magnetic, copper, steel, aluminum, etc. are through the roof. I am actually surprised by only a 5-6% increase when their component cost could easily be 25-30% higher than it was a 12-18 months ago. This is not a matter of making up for lost sales. There was a whole slew of events that caused this, starting with a shutdown of manufacturing for an extended period of time, which causes part suppliers to shut down .... then as things were starting to open up, delta hit and it hit some key areas really hard like the Philippines and Malaysia key semiconductor packaging areas, and Chinese factories well open, were under restrictions that reduces their capacity, then you had the energy shortages in Shenzhen/Dongguan that was cutting factories down to as little as 1 day a week. Many many suppliers or electronics are happy if they can make their product at all, even at a higher cost. Cost negotiated and scheduled orders were cancelled by semiconductor vendors en-masse. Force majeur, or "act of God" depending on the contract language. We have had to use it with customers ourselves. We are paying 2, even 3x the price of some components on the broker market, and have requalified 2, 3 even 4 parts for a socket just so we could build. Now add in price increases on all commodities. If any supplier in China is only raising prices 5-6% they are taking a significant margin hit just to maintain sales volume.

@audioman58 Did the KTE May DAC already have a price increase? If so, how much of an increase was it? Did you say they are planning another one on the KTE May DAC? Thanks. |
Do you have any idea how uniformed you are? All the best,

Face it kids costs are up across the globe. Logistics and shipping costs (conex containers) costs have gone up dramatically in the last 18 month. China is also experiencing escalating energy costs and shortages of coal for generating electricity due trade issues with Australia. It is all a perfect storm so buckle up kids. COVID has just magnified all these issues. Trump did not break it and Biden will not fix it.

@carlsbad I ask myself the same question at least once in every single audiogon thread. |
Denafrips is experiencing high demand for their products. Do you really think they would use that rationale in their email to announce a price increase…? they make great products, sold direct to consumers at sensible prices. The Pontus increased $150 Singapore $. That is very modest and less than Naim’s price increases 2-3 years ago. Can’t say I blame them. Their products and customer service are good. Other manufacturers should take note. I love my Pontus II. It has look, feel and performance of a DAC costing 2x. |
What mwasilo is saying demonstrates a lack of knowledge in the economics of what is happening today. It appears more like he has an axe to grind with everyone. Frankly, I find his response insulting and I’m sure is also insulting to a lot of other manufacturers who operate their business with integrity and with their customers’ goals as the primary concern to satisfy. There may well be manufacturers who are increasing prices simply to take advantage of an opportunity but to make a blanket statement accusing all major manufacturers of this behaviour seems unwarranted and without any justification. The supply chain for a large variety of electronic components including (but not limited to) semiconductors, capacitors, resistors and a plethora of other parts (many custom made too) is hampered by incredibly long delays with associated price increases, some of them being extremely high. In order to try and stay ahead of the curve we now need to preorder a lot more inventory and pay prices that are sometimes double, sometimes triple or more from what they were before. Sadly that does mean we need to increase our prices, which we are, come January 2022. Costa Koulisakis Simaudio Ltée (i.e MOON by Simaudio) Boucherville, Que, Canada |
Just as @nonoise & PolitiFact has pointed out, you are very uninformed. Just because uncle Joe closed up drilling on fed lands and various pipelines resulting in a shortage of gas doesn’t mean that the price of gas had to rise. So you don’t have as big a supply? What difference does it make? Then when Joe et al forced the vaccine mandate on employers and people quit rather than taking the vaccine, doesn’t mean that caused a labor shortage. And the $$$ that others are getting as part of the govt payroll protection program has no bearing on labor shortages. Everyone knows it the peoples fault for not taking the vaccines, which contents have been sealed for 55 yrs. And just because the others getting the PPP $$$ are making more $$$ than if they go to work, doesn’t mean they are right or that a labor shortage is being helped along by govt. This is just a couple reasons why @nonoise & politifact are sure you are uninformed. I can only hope that you have learned something between the 3 of us |
Hey Artemus_5. The Whole 🧠 ☠️ brain dead Biden admin sucks ,70%+ will attest to that ,next year will be a major 360 turn around people sick of the 200k a month illegals coming in ,bad on every level . Being an ex veteran , just abandoning the Afghan people , Thst helped is fir 20 years , and giving up Bogram airfield ,and leaving $75 Billion was stupid ,13 great 🇺🇸 Americans died for Nothing brain ☠️ dead Joe Joe moved on like cannon fodder. You were not there so your ignorant opinion means-0 !! |
@costa94109 Thank you! I am dealing with these same issues as a global manufacturer. Not saying that many of these issues were not around pre-COVID, however COVID has been the force multiplier along with geopolitical issues. Cheers. |
I agree completely. $75-Billion worth of weaponry left at Bog ram is false. It was $85 Billion left in the hands of those who have sworn to annihilate us. But they were just kidding Still this has little to do with the inflation & rising prices. Printing $$$ is a major cause of that. Of course uncle Joe knows that and hasn't authorized that has he? |

I would going to say talking about donuts, but someone would probably equate the hole to female anatomy and go off on a diatribe about donuts being a graphic representation of female vulnerability and the toxicity of the patriarchy.
I can't quite agree with this recommendation. If your political trash talk is somewhat reasoned, you should take that to Facebook. If it is an ideological rant, or conspiracy theory, that is what Twitter and Youtube are for.
