Enjoy your quarantine listening while you can
Skip to 2:13 for the report.
Its time for people here to grow up .Knocking a guy because he likes Polk speakers and not B&W is one thing because he likes tubes over what you have is another. We have something going that for it to reach the Spanish flu or just the avg.flu season ,people better start dropping dead like flies.Which I for one don't see happening. If this was never broadcasted as worst than the flu ,would it even been news ? The numbers don't add up.What I do see happening is people hurting, and not using their minds for what to do correctly. STOP ,LOOK and LISTEN. Hum haven't we hear that before ,yes but that wasn't for this was it ? Get the point my Friends. The truth is right in front of your eyes . |
For those who need it... This is a digital health care symptom automat detector... It is free... https://www.symptoma.com/ Typing covid 19 gives you 30 questions to answer with some diagnostic at the end... It cannot replace a doctor but can help those who cautious will isolate themselves if they had doubts before consulting... My prayers for all.... |
I said “open conversation” Sheesh, you people on this site. No wonder everything degrades so often. So funny that you think the censoring from these purposefully kept private entities are simply acting this way all separately, on their own, at the same time...and to the minute in certain cases. If you do not see the gates closing on free and open SPEACH, you aren’t paying enough attention in the right areas. They’ve all already been outed for colluding against dissenting voices, together and separate... . |
But seriously, folks: Community is community. This may not be the subject of this forum, but this is affecting/worrying the audiophile community. Let’s not be too nit picky on things, be respectful and keep open the lines of communication. I’m in quarantine like many of us. Not so difficult for me since I practice social distancing as a matter of course as an introvert. Listening to music and watching Netflix all day is actually kind of wonderful, and I spend time checking in on my elderly parents and my grandkids. However, I am worried about the misinformation and misinterpretation I see in the news and on the internet. I would like to take a moment to point out a few things: 1. Please keep in mind the reported numbers are cases AS WE KNOW THEM. A spike in numbers just means more widespread testing is showing results. Remember how West Virginia had no cases for the longest time? Turns out they weren’t testing people. If you don’t look for something you won’t see it. When I was taking a statistical analysis class in grad school that was beat into us. As an Air Force intel officer I was always focused on the validity of the source. People/organizations/countries have various reasons for reporting information, and sometimes the reports are wrong. 2. There is no parity when it comes to reporting information. You need to determine the validity of your source. I have been following reporting on the coronavirus and have developed source validity criteria for several sources. In general terms: Good are Dr Fauci, South Korean government statistics, NPR, BBC, PBS, Washington Post and NY Times. Bad are Chinese government statistics, Fox News, Trump, email strings, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Accurate but need to be careful are MSNBC, CNN, local news due to inexperienced reporters / editors and a tendency towards hyperbole. 3. Which brings me to the “cure” being discussed: chloroquine. Sorry, but no. Chloroquine is being studied. That’s all. There is some preliminary evidence it might be used to shorten the severe period. Preliminary. And for someone who has taken chloroquine and mefloquine, and been around people who have, I can tell you it might not be the panacea you think it is. Chloroquine needs to be taken daily to protect you from some strains of malaria. It does not cure malaria. It also has some nasty side effects for some people, including psychosis and death. Mefloquine is taken once a week, with fewer side effects. I would be curious to see the Coronavirus case reporting in regions where malaria drugs are more prevalent, e.g. Africa. 4. There are a lot of questions out there, and a lot of ignorance as well. Having been through a couple of epidemic situations in the past (viral meningitis and viral conjunctivitis Northeast Brazil 1984, Chikungunya Gabon 2009) I have to point out that viruses are active and persistent threats. You have to be diligent with protective measures such as washing hands, covering sneezes And coughs, and social distancing or the threat will grow and come back. And it will take longer than expected. The best advice I heard was from a medical reporter, who said she is planning for eight weeks in quarantine; if it’s less then she will feel relieved , if it gets extended to 12 weeks then she can handle it. 5. Viruses don’t respect your opinion. They use you to breed, then move on after they kill you. * Insert ex-spouse joke here* 6. I am loving my new Bluesound PowerNode 2i streamer. I have my Apple TV plugged in and can listen to Qobuz or watch TV through my 2- speaker system 7. it’s spring and I am stuck at home. Time for some deep spring cleaning! 8. When it call comes down to it, let reality be your guide. People are kind and gentle, people are cruel and ignorant, people will suffer and die. Take care of yourself, love your family, and most important of all...assess the risk. i think at this point I will find some happy music and have an early lunch. |
One problem states have finding enough masks is they keep getting out bid by the federal government. https://www.wbur.org/news/2020/03/20/charlie-baker-donald-trump-coronavirus-medical-supplies |
Just in, New York City confirmed cases double overnight. The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in New York City more than doubled overnight on Wednesday, with 1,871 people testing positive for the disease. There were 948 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday. New York City Mayor, Bill de Blasio, had announced on Tuesday that the total number of confirmed cases stood at 923. It marks the largest one-day increase of the Covid-19 disease in New York. One week ago, the total number of coronavirus cases in New York state was 216, and 11 in the week before that. The state’s governor, Andrew Cuomo, announced on Wednesday morning that there were now 2,382 confirmed coronavirus cases in New York state, of which 1,871 were in New York City. Mayor Bill de Blasio said,"Yesterday we saw a jump of a hundred cases, today we saw a jump of hundreds of cases," said Mayor de Blasio. "You are talking about a massive surge in demand. We have been appealing constantly to the federal government to start a supply system that will actually help our hospitals survive an unprecedented surge in cases. This is the problem." The Mayor added: "Hospitals are going to have massive new demands, and things like surgical masks - you just burn through those in a normal day let alone in an emergency". "President Trump has to mobilise the United States military to fully act in the coronavirus situation." Asked by CNN news anchor Andrew Cooper if he wanted to see the United States military setting up hospitals in the streets of New York City, Mayor de Blasio said "I do’’. "I am talking about the United States military going where they can save the most lives of Americans, and that’s places like New York, Seattle and California and soon that’s going to be a lot of other places" |
80k people already recovered from Covid. Of course those numbers will grow much faster than the severe outcomes. Here's a business idea. Restaurants are empty. Start opening them up, calling them "X-C... "whatever specialty" . XC is for people who are now immune who've had it already. People working there are XCs as well. These numbers will grow. We need somewhere to start. Need to show documents at the door like ID. ID good for 12 months... then move on. Keep cycling. Not just restaurants. Casinos, bars, etc... XC. |
Enjoy this open conversation -and each other- while we can... We are seeing the gates closing on free and open conversation on the internet. “Misinformation”, certain subjects (like this one) and even certain words (or ‘trigger’ words) are being flagged and AI algorithms are removing the posts. Currently happening mainly on social media (and I’d argue some here would say it’s happened to them) but it is only the beginning and people are already having to uses symbols or code words to talk about certain things. Opinions, beliefs and assumptions can get you censored, shadow banned or outright banned. Add that we already know that Google is censoring or throttling search results and it’s not hard to imagine where this is all going... Just wait until these voice device persist even more and we are given just one answer to queries... Now back to your regularly scheduled program...for now... ;) |
I am sure this will upset some members as well but oh well.... Last I checked this was an audio related forum and although the OP links very tenuously to audio in the title we all can see it has nothing to do with audio whatsoever. Now we could argue the actual merits of the topic all day long but the fact remains it has no place in these forums. There are plenty of platforms for this type of topic, here is NOT one of them. I am surprised that admin have not deep sixed this thread a long time ago. |
Personally you can call it whatever you like, its the results and impact that are the concern not its name So yes I am going to let it drop as it is of little import under the circumstances. But it was universally known in the media as coronavirus UNTIL our glorious leader started spouting China Virus. At least that is the first occasion I heard it referenced as such. And if there were earlier reference so be it, I am no expert and do not claim to be. |
hifiman5 The naming of epidemics (pandemics) after places of origin or concentration is how it has always been done...more examples the Spanish Flu did not originate there but was centered there once it arrived. Ebola was named after the Ebola River in Africa. MERS means Middle East Respiratory Syndrome. On and on it goes... nothing racist or nationist about it. >>>>Uh, it’s the singer, not the song. 😬 |

OK, here is a little good news for the US. The mortality rate in the US has fallen to 1.47% with the flood of new cases due to the ramping up of testing. The new numbers in the US are 13,229 confirmed cases and 195 deaths. Sadly in Italy, by contrast, the numbers are much worse with 41035 cases and 3405 deaths for a mortality rate of 8.3%. |
They're saying the sky over Wuhan China is no longer brown with smog and Chinese who used to wear a facemask because of the pollution are no longer wearing them. Maybe if all the industry all over the world stops climate change will be reversed. Maybe this is natures way of accomplishing this. Or getting rid of us. Either way the planet would be better off. |
Millercarbon - if you are ever in South Carolina look me up - I owe you a steak off my grill, a round of golf and we will share a good bottle of wine. by the way my ‘hum’ is gone on my main stereo system - had a tech come to the house and got a CAT 5 line installed so I could move my LUMIN T2 to my main system and feed thru the balanced inputs. Happy Listening and stay save and healthy |
Miller carbon - thank you for your heads up 4 weeks ago about the virus ( that did originate in Wuhan China) and that was ravaging Assisted Living facilities in the Seattle area in February. I am a chemist that works for an Italian Chemical company based in Milan Italy. My coworkers in Milan are living a nightmare because their government did not cut off China air travel early in January. The Chinese government LIE. They persecuted their own doctors and lied to WHO in January about this virus. Then then allowed unrestricted travel for Chinese New Year. The ‘cat was out of the bag’ then and the world is suffering. You’re welcome. You must have read the thread before the people who value their ideology over human life had it removed. (They don’t know that is what they’re doing. They are not that aware. That is simply their motivation. This is what it is to be NPC.) It is the China virus. It originated in China. Same as Ebola, same as Lyme, there is a hundred years history of this naming convention. In order to call it anything else you would have to be brain dead. Literally. 53 times the media called it the China virus- New York Times, CNN, all the fake media the people who believe the narrative consider real. https://www.breitbart.com/the-media/2020/03/18/nolte-53-times-the-establishment-media-said-chinese-o... Scroll down for the MRCT video of talking heads saying Wuhan corona virus. Over and over and over again. Apologies are in order. Getting to be a habit for you eh, uberwaltz? And you thought it was a rare occurrence to be totally unhinged from reality. As if. Even total global finance genius Kyle Bass knows its China virus. Watch him set the talking head straight. Listen and learn. Skip to 10:21 https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=620&v=HWaCdUgLjus&feature=emb_logo "We can call it what we want to call it. I'm not gonna call it what the Chinese government wants me to call it." Or anyone here, for that matter. |
I use two different pages, one for this site and one for the other that I want to link to. Of the four boxes, above, choose the one on the right. Next, clear the http:// out. Now go and click on the URL on the other site and drag it over to the open space you’ve just created. Now click on OK. That will complete the transfer. I know there’s an easier way to do it but this never fails me. I used to be able to change the link to words that could be used in a sentence, but done in blue, like a pro, but something changed with my iMac and I can’t do that anymore. If you don't have the space to use two pages, you can create a bookmark and then bring it up and click and drag on that using the same technique. All the best, Nonoise |
"Today’s Audiogon headline: "100% cure rate discussed by group that constantly complains about snake oil."
I've raised all my speaker cables off the floor and have not contracted Coronavirus. No way to argue with that. By the way, how do you do a quote on this forum, like the ones above with a veritcal line next to them? Best wishes for all here. Mike |
I’ll toss this in as food... might be worth considering just how this is being handled, and perhaps question the WHO and it’s motivations just a bit? Long read: https://www.who.int/bulletin/volumes/89/7/11-086173/en/ |
...some will not believe, will mistrust, 'it can't happen to me', or any number of things circulating about.... Only someone collapsing into them in a line, coughing up blood or some other graphic and/or 'disturbing' scene to give it more than a snort. I'll watch the numbers....'infected/dead', the stock market, the amount of time spent on the air (HO, it's either info...or stroking the fear...You choose). Lucky so far....minimal impact 'here'.....🤞 Keep you head...let others throw theirs at you.... |
Still don’t know one person with it, nor do people I know, and I know a lot..., that know anyone who knows of anyone with it, take it for what it’s worth...a bunch of freaking overblown BS ! Happy listening...That's quite the feat having the whole wide world in on it and you're the only one they couldn't get it over on. Must be lonely at the top. All the best, Nonoise |
