I've been using AQ for years.
Good USB C Cable
Trying out the Wandla DAC which only has a USB C input instead of the typical type B connector. So going from a $1000 A to B cable on my prior DAC to a $5 A to C cable, because I’m unable to find any better cable with a C connector. I will be trying the other inputs as well.
Does anyone know of any better A-C cables than cheapo eBay cables?
(Cable naysayers please try to control yourself)
If you are just trying the DAC out. I would try all the different inputs and see if one stands out. That should give you a sense of whether you want to keep the DAC and its performance level. Since USB vs other digital is typically going to be the biggest difference... because you are comparing very different strengths of streamer and DAC this should tell you what you want to know. I'm guessing the USB is not going to be the strength of this DAC since USB-C is typically portable device. But just a guess. |
A quick blurb on USB-C: This is the current standard, and it marries power and data delivery with display connectivity. USB-C is what you'll see on most new devices like smartphones, game controllers, earbud cases, microphones, and laptops. Its form factor is small, oblong, and reversible, so it can be plugged in either way (take that, USB-A). The port's 100-watt connection makes it perfectly suited for fast charging and data transfers, even with larger devices. USB-C can do more than other USB types can, and get it done faster. USB-C has the potential to replace all other cables, thanks to its diverse multi-tasking abilities. It has the ability to power even the most power-hungry devices, like laptops and TVs. It can also transfer 40 gigabits of data per second (Gbps), and can be used to deliver 5K video to external monitors.
My new DAC, Master Fidelity Nadac D will arrive shortly; its input is USB-C. Kubala Sosna now makes their Realization USB cable terminated in USB -C specifically becauses of this DAC. I do not think it is just for cheapo stuff! |
@fuzztone Seeing that now. I had originally checked a dealer who didn't carry any with the C connector. @ghdprentice Yes, that's the plan but this flimsy cable I had didn't inspire confidence, thus looking for another, even if it's just temporary for the trials. @fastfreight Not seeing that on their website. Regardless, $4000 for a USB cable is not in the cards. @srinisr Thanks but that's a B to C, I need A to C. Thanks all for your suggestions!

Jonny at Snake River Audio makes custom digital cables. Give him a call about A to C. |

I’d get a DHLabs interconnect. I if you are like me, a long term audiophile then having a Hugh quality budget interconnect "laying around" is an OK thing. It will be excellent quality and great sounding but not set you back like a high end interconnects. Typically I have a few DHLabs interconnects of different types laying around. They come in handy when some new equipment comes through, or I change one of my systems... or a friend needs something. Or as stage one of a new system. Highly recommended. |
I and others here have ordered cables from LavriCables, and they consistently offer very high quality and performance/$. This is their top quality USB cable (they offer two less expensive models as well), and it offers 5N silver and physically separate legs for data and power that are unheard of at this price. They don’t specify a USB-C connector, but others have asked for custom builds and they have accommodated so worth asking if it’s possible. Best of luck. |
