JBL S3900s or JBL 4367 and a pair of SVS SB or PB 16 Ultra Subwooofers. Alternatively, the pair of REL No. 31 or 32. Any combination would absolutely do the trick in a 5500 FT3 or 150 M3 room. No direct driver loudspeaker will have the output or directivity control required to successfully fill that room. JBL, SVS, and REL are also likely to have distribution in Thailand. Personally, ivastly prfer thr new JBLs over anything from Klipsch. Succcess with a room that size requires controlled directivity, and that means horns, or possibly a line array. Although the Magneplanar 20.7 with the aforementioned subwoofers and adequate power could be extraordinary - if the room is well treated acoustically. Direct radiators rarely sound their best in rooms over 70 or so M3 (or2600 ft3) - about half the size of your room. Their conventional cone/dome speakers simply cannot move enough air to generate the levels required, and their broad dispersion means lots of early reflections which will rapidly deteriorate into a muddy sounding mess.
Looking for new speakers for large audio room
I’m looking for new speakers that are big enough for my listening room which is 9x6 meters and my current speakers are Avantgarde uno series two loud speakers and not getting enough impact from the woofers.
I’m looking for speakers in the 30K to 20K price range.

There will be a new Zu Definition 6 in Q1, with 1st production late in this year. It will easily fill your room (I've heard the older Definition 4 fill larger rooms), and with 101/db/w/m efficiency won't need a large amp to do it. The speaker incorporates a powered downfire sub-bass section with independent level, PEQ, phase, low-pass-filter freq and PEQ freq controls for excellent room tuning. Low end response down to 16Hz. Another advantage to Zu speakers in general is the combination of high efficiency and high power handling. You have amp flexibility from 2 - 2000w. But you sure won't need four figures of power. Drag your feet a few months and get that. A pair will be in the low end of your price range. Phil |
SUGGESTION: With a room that size, don't buy anything until your dealer installs a pair of the best Magneplaners. Be sure you have GREAT electronics--you only hear what you put into them, so GIGO. If they don't knock you off your feet--once they are set up properly, then any box you want will be fine. Cheers! |
My living room is about same size as your's but with higher ceiling of 20 ft. https://youtu.be/BNdoLZFwjY8 https://youtu.be/V51SekzxIhc Altec A7 seems to give plenty of bass in my room driven by Line Magnetic 508 with 48 wats. Thomas |
Hi Shawarma. Check Legacy Audio. 2 models.... The wall and The beast. I personally ordered The beast, 3 15" drives, comes with 2 internal amplifiers, I add an amplifier for the upper section. The wall is basically same speaker, but comes with 4 15" drives. You can request for an extra internal amp or even 2 extra internal, not too much difference The price, and you don't have to worry for amplifiers. Free shipping and no taxes. I ordered on Destinationhifi.com. good luck |

@shawarma How do you listen? What do you listen to? Do you really need to "pressurize the whole room" to be satisfied because you need that full bass sound no matter where you are standing in the room? Or would you be content to sit closer in a more near field listening position? Have you experienced the audiophile sound you can achieve with less demanding high quality speakers in a near field experience? |
Tekton Ulfberht’s with all Be Mid/HF Drivers (definitely choose your custom color) and Bi-Wire options. You’ll simply be amazed at $20K. |
The Persona 9h would do the job. I had the 7f and was floored by the bass passive speakers could put out, sure the mid and tweeter need to be matched to component en to by ear, but when they are oh baby! A used pair of meridian dsp 8000’s will cure any bass problems and if you can get a special edition pair they really are very good. |
You really should keep those wonderful speakers and only add what your room is missing which is several subwoofers to properly pressurise that large of a room. Most any new speakers you might purchase would still need those subwoofers due to the room size. My main listening room is that large and I wasted time and money upgrading to larger speakers when in the end several subwoofers were the only thing that could properly pressurise my room. Wishing you the best. |
@shawarma In your large space, are you satisfied with the Avantgarde uno sound with the exception of bass impact? |
Dutch and Dutch 8C. Half of that price range but will beat most. But you seem to be just right for Grimm LS1be. Those are endgame speakers. https://www.grimmaudio.com/hifi-products/loudspeakers/ls1be/ Time to outgrow all the puerile preamp, DAC, amp banter. |
@ronboco it does, but potentially to an even higher degree as you have elevation in the mix. Also, and is recommended, the crossovers of each are slightly different. Take a look. It’s an expensive endeavor with the Rels though, and the S serie subs are designed specifically for this application. They work fine as singular subs but they are setup to daisy to one another and have mounting plates to tie them together as one. Shocking set up. It is a similar tactic used in live shows where line arrays are pretty much the norm. |
Most of the speakers brands most of you recommended aren’t being sold by any local dealers in ThailandDue to the size of your room unless you have a very high powered amp horns of some sort are probably in the mix. So do you plan to only work with speakers that are available through dealers in Thailand? This sounds very tricky any way you look at it! |
Hello, +1 for the extra subwoofers. If you are not going to go that route I would go with one of the KEF blade 2s. They have side firing woofers that creat a ton of bass. If you don’t believe me go listen to a pair in a room half the size. These things need breathing room and you have it. Also, with such a big room you want the music to sound good outside of the perfect listening chair. These do it in spades. I love the KEF Reference 5s. You would be better off with the blades. KEF has a subwoofer, The KC62 that plays down to 11hz in a one foot square box. It’s like having two of these awesome subwoofers in each speaker. I don’t own KEF Blades but I have heard them at a brick and mortar store close to me. https://holmaudio.com/This store lets you try stuff out in your home on your equipment for free. No buyers remorse. I hope this helped you out. |
Common clearthinker, why not! Given you amplifier's power I think Atma sphere's recommendation makes the most sense. Without a line source dipole I think horns will work best. However, with subwoofers your amp will drive Sound Labs 845's but you would need two more subwoofers for it to work really well. I use JC 1's which are Class A to 25 watts and I rarely use more than that. I also believe your Pass will push a lot more power just not in class A. |
Most of the speakers brands most of you recommended aren’t being sold by any local dealers in Thailand and. If they were bought online the price would be doubled or more for imported audio gear so I’m very limited most of them I have demoed most of the loud speakers local dealers sell their products the same price and usually have great discounts and no trade up program for most places even For example I had a vintage Bryston 4B amp and the dealer would not take trade up because it’s too old of a product. and very small used market for audio gear. |
