New PrimaLuna Evo's

Hi, has anyone tried and heard the new PrimaLuna Evo amps against the PrimaLuna Dialogue Premium HP amps, there seems to be a big jump up in price of the Evo amps? s

I'm happy to see others are also avoiding made in China whenever possible. Lots of top shelf equipment made elsewhere.
I purchased an ex dem PL Evo 200 a couple of weeks ago, it is beautifully made and weighs a ton. On first listening, I loved the sound, compared with my old Naim set up, but for some reason the sound has become muffled and incoherent. I am asking on this thread because I am wondering if changing the caps as suggested might help. I am in the UK and it seems very difficult to get any help here. My source is a Linn Genki CD player, through Robson Acustics Opulus speakers. Also use an old vintage pair of Tannoy Mercury speakers, which sounded great, especially with classical music. I don’t know what has happened but they just don’t sound like all the fantastic comments on this site, I feel like I am missing something? Any ideas?

On any of the PL amps, HP, EVO, Non-HP, you have not heard them until you get those plastic film coupling caps replaced with copper foils from Jensen or Jupiter. Takes you much closer to the sound of the VAC amps.

True with many well made amplifiers. Glad to also report I’ve realized real benefit in my last four amplifiers even replacing good caps with "great" caps can make a remarkable and very rewarding improvement after full burn-in cycle is completed.

I started comparing higher end optional upgrade caps used in TOTL Cary amplifiers and began installing the same caps in all of my Cary Audio and Quicksilver Audio tube amplifiers and preamplifiers. Worth it every time.

I agree with @kevweldon. Look, we all know that we can’t buy 100% American because most, if not all PCBs and other internal parts are produced in China. However, to the extent that we can avoid products which are blatantly made there, we CAN do so by purchasing products that say "Made in America."

I have the Primaluna EVO 400 pre and poweramp running on Klipsch Cornwall's 4. Excellent equipment! Big, open soundstage. I swapped the EL34 for KT150.

"IN CHINA. I returned my demo model once I found that out."

You won't be demoing much equipment, if you REALLY want to dissect the way things work. SMH
I heard the EVO 300.Sounds great. MADE IN CHINA. I returned my demo model once I found that out.

Tonight my local dealer is holding his annual Spring audio show. Called (Game of Cones). One of the reps will be from Primaluna. He will demo some of the EVO gear. Should be interesting.

Did you go to the Spring audio show, if so did you have a demo with the PrimaLuna Evo Amps?

I have only heard the Evos (2 x Evo 400 power amps and 400 pre-amp). They are capable of projecting close to total reality via a great tt/cart and electrostatic speakers (aided and abetted by the generous application of several well-known and perhaps controversial tweeks i.e. MC0.5/TC/fo.Q). Best amps I’ve ever owned, hands down.

No I haven't heard the Evo. Specs indicate circuit redesign to balanced configuration and inclusion of a headphone amp plus a little cosmetic change. Is that worth the difference to you? My Dialogue Premium integrated is the best tube rig I've owned and I've owned a few; some costing multiples of the PL.
