WiFi extension for streaming

I have 2 high end streaming systems in my home, one is hardwired and the other uses a WiFi extender. My streamers are a Grimm Audio MU1 and Aurender W20SE. My network uses a Netgear Mesh router and 2 extenders. The WiFi Mesh extender is hardwired to an Innous PhoenixNet and then my MU1 > Bricasti M1S2 DAC. The Aurender W20SE is hardwired through an Etherregen switch to the Mesh main router. The DAC is a Holo May KTE. Both systems sound great. I highly recommend a Mesh WiFi network system.

Google Mesh also allows you to prioritize your streaming device from the Google home app. Definitely a handy feature if you have other people competing for bandwidth.

I have heard some people say if your Wi-Fi network is being used by other people or your system is a long distance from your router you might be better off with a mesh system, but that’s all I got.  Best of luck. 

Another vote for mesh network extenders. And even better, a long hard wire run from your modem starlight into streamer, if that’s possible. If you are thinking fiber, opt for that over wifi or mesh network extenders. Last thing you wanna do is plug your X1 into a power line ethernet extender 😳

Never use wifi to stream.  It will always be much inferior to hard wired.

People give advice on which wifi to get. that is good advice assuming you are ignoring the advice above which trumps all wifi recommendations.

I’ve ditched the power line extender I was previously using- although there was really nothing wrong with it the mesh definitely maintains higher and more consistent network speeds. The only issue I have is with the mesh unit having to be rebooted once in a while.

Should be fine.  Just need a strong connection. Use an extender if needed for that.  I do. 

I would start with just a simple wall wart wifi extender plugged into an outlet near your streamer. Just plug in an Ethernet (good quality) cable to the extender. Streamers have very low speed requirements. Good quality streamers cashe the stream and isolate from noise and vibration. My streamers works flawlessly when my iPad will not refresh. I would not make this harder than you have to.

Real budget streamers benefit from working on the network. It is much easier to just get a good streamer. I recommend Aurender.

Both of my systems work this way and sound great (see my systems under my user ID). I know of many +$100K systems working this way providing high end sound.

Not really. As long as it’s not super crazy long.
