Do you sell the stuff you don't really need or fill up your closets with it?

I'd say, I tend to do both but keep more.

I do my very best to hand it down. But why there is this bag of generic cables in my closet completely escapes me.

I have a lot of gear in boxes.  I can't bring myself to sell if for nothing.  Maybe one of my boys will use it someday.

Have a pair of Von Schweikert VR-4s that I think my youngest boy will want when he has space for them.

I have a lot of cables in a box.

I did force myself to sell a conrad-johnson preamp and Gustard R26 dac.  Traded in an older Coda amp that needed re-capped towards a new one.

I still keep my 25 year old Audiolab 8000LX integrated, though I haven't used it for 15 years. I like it, it works fine and it makes little sense to sell it for $300 or so. It's a good inexpensive little British integrated that delivers some music.

Early on, I sold my gear to fund my next purchase. Now that my gear doesn’t see much churn, I tend to pick up interesting inexpensive stuff I don’t need, just in case some family member or friend has a need!

Starting to sell off and have made a small dent.  Heading north tomorrow to hand over my very first audiophile rig, NAD 3140 integrated, 2150 power (to bridge with 3140), and 4020 tuner.  Bought those new about 1981 and listing/selling them was a trip down memory lane.  Buyer is in a club that is into vintage gear so they are going to a good home.  Stuff still works, and never been serviced!

I used to sell everything but lately just don't have the interest or energy to sell so I just keep stuff. I'm a pair of speakers away from a 2nd system but nowhere to put one!

I keep what I use including some things to just play around with plus a few spares that might come in handy

That’s about 25 different components currently including speaker pairs and not including various wires.

So, I keep that Audiolab, Burson power amp, Acoustech phono stage, couple of extra RCA cables and more blank SVHS videotapes than I need. Not too much, in fact.

Shortly before I retired I started using old equipment for trade in one my upgrades. It was great to get rid of all that stuff collecting dust.
