No Private Messages for Me

It's a shame that we as Audiogon members are not allowed to communicate with each other except through Audiogon and they monitor your messages and decide what information can be shared. Should Audiogon ever close, think of all the information and contacts that would be lost :-(

I've gotten several new private messages from members who were able to send me a message.  Perhaps you already have a credit card on file?  Most companies keep your credit card for 7 years.  

Under each message is a box from Audiogon with this message in it:

"You must have a verified phone number and payment method to send messages."

Yes its a silly way to to promote buying and selling on a site that does just that! Agon...dump the cc thing!

They’ll learn later on, when communications are restricted, members just end up going elsewhere over time. Storing Cc information for no good reason is a security liability, yet with all the same negative posts and repeat offenders showing up (under different account handles), maybe they are trying to validate member authenticity more to keep the same agitator trolls out. Maybe they'll post a policy reason for some of the recent site changes going on, who knows.

It seems that some do and some don’t.

I've recieved more private messages from good-hearted forum members trying to help but can't reply to any of them.  Same box with the same message in it and no "reply" option available.

@dekay I tried clicking on your forum name and got your profile, system link, etc, but no message option.  thanks for trying.

I'm ok with this.  I generally don't need private messages.  If something is important, i'll just @ the person and post my message publicly.  I've often offered forum members to stop by and have a listen.   I'm in .....Carlsbad.  (CA)

It’s really hard to absolutely hide and seem to disappear these daze.....

A article in a WIRED a few back denoted the methods and means one fellow went into to attempt to ’disappear’....site wipes, pics, anything relevant or even inferring such....

Fun for awhile, but when it came to transactions of any note in US society.....

Cash was your friend.....have lots and don’t try to rent/buy/order substantial stuff.

My responses are blocked also so I am unable to answer repair questions  so If you are trying to reach me, no luck in my responding

I’m pretty sure that the reason you can’t send a message is that you have never had any transaction here. The reason for a cc verification is needed so they get paid their fee when a listing is posted!

@yogiboy that may be true, but for several years I was able to send private messages.  I have messaged several members and a few of us have made contact outside of audiogon to get together and listen to music together.  Perhaps I got blocked from sending PMs because I spoke to an audiogon member in real life.

The fact is that Audiogon is first and foremost a business. The discussion posts bring them zilch.  It must cost them something to maintain it at no cost to the people who frequent these posts!

I've decided after recent typing transacts with our dedicated Tolerator Tammy that we have and can upfront set a time & place to PM elsewhere to bs and trade asides over whatever might raises hairs 'n hackles Here.
Argue the details elsewhere, but be adult enough to give the 'Gon it's due and provide a Fair Witness to the deal and the details of the 2 parties.
Overseas stuff may prove more a sticky wicket, perhaps an 'assurance insurance' of an enforceable sort...
