What do you listen to when no one else can hear it
Everyone has something they like to listen to, but won't play it when their friends are around for fear of getting abused. What are your recordings that you don't play for friends, but will put on when no one else is around.
To break the ice, I'll go first.
The Carpenters - from their last LP that came out right after Karen died - "Make believe it's your first time."
@bdp24, I was not apologizing for liking The Ventures. Typically I listen at moderate levels but when I listen to The Ventures I like to crank it up. I usually only do that when nobody is around.
I do not have their 1965 "On Stage" album but I have heard it. I have to check out your other recommendations.
@ljgerens, no apology necessary for liking Surf, I don’t care what Jimi said ;-). The Ventures are AWESOME! Do you have their 1965 "On Stage" album? Great live recordings.
Bill Frisell has a great new album entitled "Guitar In The Space Age!". For new Surf, there is also Los Straitjackets. They have their own stuff, and record and tour as Nick Lowe's band.
This thread is hilarious. Someone mentioned Best of Bread. Oh no, not that! Major cringe factor there. I used to have that on cassette when I was a kid. Is that the only album they ever did? ;-) Also, Klaatu, Calling Occupants.....that's hilarious because just the other night I had the iPad in front of me wondering what I should stream and guess what popped into my head out of the blue? Yup, I had to hear it. I used to have that LP or maybe I still do......somewhere.
One song that I kind of like more for the way it's composed more than anything is Taylor Swift, Style. My daughter listens to Taylor in the car when I drive her to school so one evening I thought, hey let me try that. I couldn't believe how bad it sounded on my system. That is definitely a car radio or mp3 recording. Ok, ok, maybe that line about the tight little skirt gets me a little bit too but don't tell anyone!
Caravanserai is a great LP. I tend to listen to Black Sabbath, of late Vol.4, S/T, and SBS, without my wife. My listening pals for the most part, are also not fans.
Brooks and Dunn singing Husbands and Wives is transcendent. Period. In my opinion of course. And also my ex-girlfriend's too. And she was a Scot who never heard of them before I played that cut. On my Vandersteen 5As. That she talked me into buying.

Steve Earle quipped that Shania Twain was the highest paid lap dancer in Nashville. Good one, Steve! I fully understand why he feels that way, and share with him a distain for the high-gloss, "fake" Country music that gets promoted. In spite of that, I enjoy a casual listen to her albums, with the production of her then-husband Mutt Lange, well-known as the producer of AC/DC, whom I love to death. I listen to Shania as a Pop entertainer, not a Country artist. Works for me!

Actually, 99.9% of everything I listen to no one else can hear, because it's a dedicated room, and listening time is almost always just me, though sometimes our Dachshund joins me. My wife only listens for background music, in other rooms of the house. OK, being a little snarky there...yes, I understand the OPs point, and when a guest comes over to listen to music, they always pick what they prefer to hear, so... And um, yes, Dale Bozzio WAS hot!
The Best of Missing Persons. My kid can't stand it. Most of my friends just shake their heads when they find out I have it. But it's a nostalgia trip for me back to the 80's. Besides, Dale Bozzio was HOT!
99% of everything I listen to no one else hears, but my secret spin is Michael Jackson. If my friends knew they would kick my ***. (Maybe I need new friends?)
