Of course, thanks for stealing my idea. Once price gets beyond a point it makes a lot more sense for the boxes to be permanent structures or stackable. Machining aluminum to the degree that these companies do is an absurd way to blow massive amounts of money. But these are vanity products. Stuff aimed at rich people is all about talk. You can talk about how your speakers required decades of machining and three workmen died during assembly. It makes you special.
Better than Magico and Wilson audio?
Couldn't you just outdo a Magico by making a cabinet out of brick, stuffing a bit of fibreglass in there and putting your accutons on the front? This would also cost a fraction of the cost of a Magico.
Do people enjoy wasting their money or do people care more about the appearance of a speaker than the way it sounds?
Why pay so much more when you can have it for far less?

People in the DIY communities do this sort of thing often. Go troll their threads. Here's a little help to get you started: https://www.diyaudio.com/index.php Grace them with your infinite wisdom and leave us be to waste our money. |
@kenjit "making a cabinet out of brick" Gee just a short while ago you were 5 inches of concrete speaker guy ; and the drill holes in the outside of your house guy. " The problem with people on this forum is they will ridicule my ideas yet they havent the faintest idea why it is a bad idea. " Really, drilling holes in the outside of one's home for one's speakers is the prime example of your nonsense ideas |
not your idea. I'm sure I'm not the first to have it either but I brought this up in a thread in the last year that you posted in so I know you read it. https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/metal-cabinet-speakers/post?postid=1774798#1774798 |
@celo, you’re giving him far too much credit. He’s not that clever. Angry? Naw, amused the same way I am when I see a dog chasing it’s tail. Which "idea"? Your "invention" of the infinite baffle, or to make an enclosure out of bricks? Since I thought of combining the two (an idea you didn't seem to follow), if you go into business and sell an infinite baffle made of bricks, I want my cut. |
The only reason I clicked on this is that Magico and Wilson are not remotely in the same league. I cancelled my Absolute Trash subscription because the foist Magico on people who presumably can't listen for themselves. Aluminum is probably the worst possible material to make a speaker cabinet from. It is impossible to damp. Anyways, I heard the XVXs yesterday. They are stunningly good! as with each Wilson speaker, there are improvements over the WAMMs - the best speakers in the world. They have newer capacitor designs, possible since acquiring Relcaps. They have a newer midrange driver. paired with a Vivaldi stack, Boulder Pre and power amp and of course Transparent cables, the speakers truly did not exist. Piano sounded as close to real as I have ever heard, and low organ notes were earthshaking! |
