All us regulars are familiar with the “Who R U” thread started by my buddy David. I met my first local audiophile friend last weekend, their aren’t many of us up here, and we have similar taste in music, and gear for that matter too! David is also ‘close’ to me(about 2-3 hour drive) other then that there is NO one, perhaps some of us are closer to each other then we realize. Of course some of us know where each other are, how ever there are many members I don’t know the location of. There are literally NO high fi dealers near me, so it is nice to see/hear a good system, set up by a fellow audiophile, my latest friend is so happy that he is not the only one in this area with this passion. So I am in the Albany, NY area, where are you folks from?
The drive is very easy--45 minutes for me to get to work here in Red Bank from Glen Ridge. Great town, too, whl248--you should make a point of visiting those relatives!
I'm still in the Cleveland,OH area. Moved to Cleveland from Brook Park last year and in two weeks I'm moving to Parma,OH into my first house. For the last 3-4 years, had a truely great audio store and meeting place here in Indy -- Synergistic Sound -- but the bad economy finally forced the owner to close a couple of months ago, and seek his fortune in CA, working in another industry -- probably good for him, but bad for audiopiles in the area....

No high end shops to be found and I've yet to meet an audiophile here. Most people around here can't fathom the idea that I have a $3K turntable rig, and think a tube amp must be some kind of sausage-making device...
...and what high-end dealers I've been able to find within hundreds of miles get a little weirded out that a 20-something year old dreadlocked hooligan such as myself would have a high-end system (except for one in Madison who sold me my Conrad Johnson). Once, I nearly got in a fight with a salesman at a local "record store" who wouldn't believe such a thing as a cartridge alignment tool existed. The place was chock full of NuMark and Gemini direct drive turntables and Monster Cable. That was a fun one.

I'm from Chile, specifically from Santiago, the capital. I'm 25 years old and work for a Dutch owned shipping company. I have had the plesure of living in the US (NJ) and travelling around Japan (you wouldn't believe the audio gear I saw), South America and Europe.
David99- I saw from your post that you are from Perry. I grew up on the other side of Wyoming County from you in beautiful Arcade, NY. Spent my formative years as a slope rat at Blumont Ski Area and drooling over stuff at the old Purchase Radio store on Transit Road in West Seneca. I now reside in Burlington County NJ about 20 min from Princeton and the Record Exchange. I still drive right through Perry on 20A to visit friends and family in East Aurora.
Detroit Lakes Minnesota. About an hour East of Fargo, ND, and about 2 1/2 hours West of Minneapolis. Pretty slim pickin's for stereo shops, or people to listen with around here. Wife thinks the $80.00 boom box is just fine. :-(
