Hi all, you can get about the effect as Cryoed treatments by putting your cables or components in the Freezer for 24 hours and then put them in the refrigerator for one or two hours.........this REALLY works!!! Try this with the cables you have now.......Try this for yourself and see if you "hear a difference"............Richard
Wellfed, you may have a point. Here I am, lounging at work late on a Friday afternoon sipping a Yerba Mate and reading Audiogon threads. I'm not really contributing to anything this minute, except maybe my waistline and feeling relaxed. Ahh, the So Cali life.
Yes Tvad, I was pretty close to the edge, wasn't I. My sick sense of humor sometimes comes through. Sometimes, I do tend to make people put on their BS wading boots. Anyway,I apologize to anyone that I offended. Just sick humor. On a better note, I just had a slew of different outlets sent off to be cryo'd. I could just kick myself for missing out on the "freezer" trick. Could have saved a bundle. I lately tend to be a "day late and a dollar short."
Fatparrot That is very true! yeah this was some chick i met last week who really played me right into the sack.... damn she was cute too. ... so... i guess it really aint that bad of a thing. :)
Wellfed, i was just playin around buddy! Yer right about the lack of productivity, if everyone were like me this place would be basically useless. HAHAHAHA
Home Depot has window A/C units on clearance, I just bought 18 of them. Enough with this in the Freezer crap, with all 18 units at Cool High, I'll turn the entire house into an iceberg! Gotta dig out the Parka now!
I cryo my kids. Helps keep them in line. I have also suggested in another thread that the "magic audio ninjas" in PF's new cleaning formulas be cryo'd just prior to shipment so they don't kill each other while in the box.
I live in Wisconsin, if I open the doors and windows in January I can cryo the whole friggin house....the cat...the wife...everything. Can't imagine how the wife would sound during and after the cryo treatment, think I'll give it a try....thanks Rpatrick.
I can't believe I actually read this entire thread. Was kind of amuseing. do you need the special freezer bags or just regular zip lock bags? not in a million years am I putting my $2200 IC's in the Amana
Nrchy, 18 Dedicated outlets, 18 Separate ground rods, 18 times 8000 btu's! If there is a Black Out on the whole East Coast when I power them on? It wasn't ME! :0)~
Mejames, why not, I put my plinius worth 4k when it was new, maybe thats that the reason why its class A,Maybe Wes put it in the ice box, before the review.RICHARD RICHARD thank you for sharing your hidden tweak,I admire you, You did not get PATENT this could have made you rich,I will put my Marble speaker on my neighbor industrial freezer,I will update you.I will use trash bag, to keep the mist inside, to improve the ambience, i know this will work Richard.
Jayctoy, I am using a Frigidaire frost free commercial freezer. I got a small improvement when I did my CD's, you get the best effect when you freeze your cables and components............Richard
I've been thinking of doing this to some Atma-Shere MA-1 Silver Edition Monoblocks. Before I do this, should I leave all the tubes on the amp or remove them first and freeze them separately?
Rx8man, I am not sure if the effects are permanent, a friend of mine did his system about two months ago and it sounds about the same, only time will tell.........Richard
Richard where can I get the frost free freezer? I would like to have it whatever it takes. I trust you now, after all the result is so musical, I played Eva Cassidy, Field of Gold Eva showed up.
Presuming this tweak works , Winter is coming, you could get a pretty good idea when the weather is going to be dry and cold, thus in theory you could take your amp, put it in plastic, in a safe place outside , and avoid having your wife call the men in the white coats. Because trust me , If I go upstairs and empty the freezer and stick my Classe 301 in their, my wife will call the authorities.
Darryl tell your wife in advance, explain to her, instead of buying new amp, Richard has discover the big secret in audio, that your amp, will improve big time, communication is the key.Richard we dont have Lowe here, maybe Sears. Hey Richard I showered my Martin Logan grill with good result.I might cryo them too.
I haven't read every post yet but here it goes, you will have to excuse me my theory is 15 years old and I have no memory left.
As far as the cables go I have no idea.
Silicone transistors on the other hand have an ambient operating tempeture of 70 degrees farenheight. As silicone is heated the electrons in the atoms orbit break there bonds easier arbitrarilly increasing current flow through a silicon device. (Hypothisys these current flucuations can be eratic over any given frequency therefore affecting the signal at the driver. Just how this will affect the sound I am not sure but at higher frequencies where current flucuations are more noticible it seems that the highs will not be as crisp as they otherwise might be.)
Now for the facts, by freezing the electronics specifically the transistors they maintain there ambient operating temperature longer than they would otherwise. How long this affect will last will depend on the room environment the volume at which the music is played and various other factors.
If you would like to try this experiment there is a better way if you have an air conditioner. Take a flexable conduit and tape it to the output of a airconditioning duct. Cool off specifically your amplifier(s) by placing the other end on the amplifier(s) listen with the airconditioning on, be prepaired for an extended listening session to see if you can hear any difference as the amplifier heats up. DON'T I repeat DON'T cool of the electronics first as you will develop condensation. All you are trying to acheive is a lower operating temperature. If your equipment has been engineered to operate at higher temperatures you may hear no affect. But theory says you probably will.
I would try this as my curosity is now peaked but I don't have an air conditioner.
Remember electronics is PFM. (Pure ******* Magic) This hobby engrains that into my very being more and more every day.
Richard, every Winter my system sounds much better. Maybe because my house is also cryod, quite background is obvious, maybe because the wire from the power coming From Comed are also cryod, Can you explain this to me?
Come on people, its fine to debate tweaks like this, but let's not make FUN of the PERSON too!! Maybe we need a JOKE FORUM here too!!............Richard
I can tell you from experience freezing your cables will make a change. If your cables are made of metal they will be altered slightly simply by putting them in a freezer. I deal with this at work all winter long, people park there car's outside and it gets cold the wheels/steel in the tire shrinks just a little bit and I see a TON of slow leaks coming in. I bet its happened to some people here. Not to mention the insulation being slightly effected(obviously it would vary depending on the dielectric that's used) I have no clue how this would change the sound but from my real world experience with a little lower temperature I have no doubts that it will alter the sound for a little while. I suspect it has less to do with altering the metal and more to do with the dielectric being further away from the wire(because when metal is even 0ÂșC it has shrinkage) the colder you go(with in reason) the more shrinkage you experience thus allowing more air to function as the dielectric. So I suppose I do buy this, though it clearly isn't permanent and I would hardly call "cryoed" it seems possible to change the sound.
Any one have any thoughts on my theory of how this possibly could work? In my world it kind of makes sense.
I believe this has some merit, as I've had a similar experience. My ex-wife fell asleep next to my stereo one time, effectively cryoing the entire system. I'm pretty sure it sounded better afterwards. Like 4 months later in a different listening room in a different house, by myself. Yep, sounds a lot better now. Cryoing really works.
Hi all, If you freeze your componets or cables for 48 hours it has a even better effect, here's how you do it, put a component or cable in two trash bags and put them in the freezer for 24 hours then put it in the refrigerator for 24 hours then put it back in the freezer for another 24 hours then put back in the refrigerator for another 24 hours then put in the coldest part of your house for 24 hours then hook everything back up and enjoy!........Richard
I may believe it changes your sound, however I am not putting my cables any where near my freezer! You seem like a drug pusher- try and stay cool like your cables ;)
Tireguy, if you don't want to freeze your cables then why don't you freeze one of your CD's and see how you like that. I did mine two time, for 24 hours in freezer and 24 hours in refrigator and then do it again, it sounded better that way, give it a try and let us know how you like it..........Richard
