Request for a recommendation on a small footprint floor standing speaker

Hello everyone, I'm new and trying to put together my first decent stereo system. Thank you for your help. I know to start with the speaker. My room is about 12x14 and I'd prefer a small footprint floor stander in wood veneer. The options I've come across are below; my question is if there is anything else I should consider? I live where it's not easy to demo any speaker. My budget is in the ballpark of the speakers below.

1. I really like the looks of the Evo 4.3 in walnut
2. Ohm Walsh micro or 1000
3. Magnepan LRS (not wood but seems less weighty in the room because of its narrow width.)

Are there other speakers that I should consider? Or any other advice you have for me?
Many thanks!

I forgot to mention what kind of music I listen to... it's mostly acoustic, vocal, and classical. I will need to buy an amp at some point too. I'm not constrained by needing to pair the speaker with a current amp. If you have a recommendation on a speaker/amp combo, I would very much appreciate it!

I second the Salk idea. Check out their website and the various options. If you contact them, they are likely to be able to let you know what amps they believe work best with their speakers.
Thank you very much for the recommendations. I appreciate it!

I'm fine with new or used. Speaker budget is up to about 2k. Amp budget is up to about 2k. (I've had recommendations for Schiit Vidar if I go with the Magnepan LRS.)

The Magnepans are attractive from a value standpoint.... everyone says they are wonderful for the price. That's appealing to my frugal side.

My source is strictly digital. I just signed up for Amazon Music HD. I'm still figuring out the best way to get music into the amp. For now I'm using a Dragonfly Red from my iPhone and a headphone to RCA cable.

I also probably need a DAC with volume controls and preferably tone controls too. Does such a thing exist?

This forum is fantastic, thanks for your help. The learning curve in hifi is steep.
Although the PMC twenty5.21i speaker is the most compact model in the new PMC range, there’s nothing small about the sound, which has the impact you’d expect from a much larger cabinet.

I have my PMC speakers sitting on my Cabinet (no speaker stands) and it sounds wonderful.
OP,
I love your original suggestion of the Ohm Walsh tall 1000's. They are a fun little speaker! I always look for them but they never come up in the used market.

Have fun!

I would check out Spendor A2. I’ve demo’d both A2 and Maggie LRS and A2 destroys it IMO, albeit at considerably higher cost. Used would fit into your budget though, and maybe you find a deal for new at $2k even. Much easier to drive also. Maggie LRS are difficult to drive - you can’t just throw any amp at them and expect it to work - see thread on PS Audio site where PS Audio Flagship Series BHK250 unable to adequately drive Maggie LRS.
Parasound Founders 80F worth consideration.

Reviews forthcoming soon.
Maggie and Ohm are opposites for dispersion.
What are you attracted to?  Sweet spot or wide stereo?
I have Ohm Walsh 4, soon to be 5, and love them.  Judging by how long the 4s lasted, they should be my last speakers.  If you go that way, make sure to call Ohm to get the right size for your room.  Maybe it’s 2000.  I think their website has a chart.
I think Spendor is always a good suggestion. Totem Forest might be another suggestion. If your budget is smaller, perhaps Totem Arro might be worth a look.
I liked the Silverline Prelude floorstander's (single port) that I listened to years ago.

They sounded like a good stand mount (in that the music did not seem to obviously come from the speakers) with tight/defined bass and a large soundstage.

Now they have the Prelude Plus floorstander,  which is said to be an improvement.

Unfortunately the Plus retails for $2K and I've only seen one used pair for sale (year, or so, ago).

Not certain if the later version would be OK in a 12X14, but assume that the dealer (Underwood?) would be able to advise on such.

Funny that 2 posts recommending them were deleted.

Totem Sttaf are great in that room size and for your music preferences. They have a tiny footprint with big bass.
Please consider speaker and matching amplifier requirement in you decision. The Maggies may be the least expensive however will require more $$ for amplification. Consider your budget for both speaker and amplification.
@mesch giving good advice here

also, +1 on smaller proac floorstanders for a natural yet detailed sound with excellent bass, they are real gems

this being said, smaller skinny floorstanders are the suv of the speaker industry... for modern decors it is the essential form factor so there is truly a glut of alternatives as most every brand will try to make one (not that they sound better than standmounts and subs, most don't) ... it is really a matter of what the user prioritizes in terms of sound qualities in selecting a speaker of this type
