I am looking to purchase a reasonably priced audio rack that can handle heavy components. @referee1 , you do not mention what your "reasonable price" is, nor do you specify the weight. In any case, I have my 60lb Parasound A21 in a Salamander Audio Archetype 5 rack. I have no idea what happened recently, but I purchased this in Walnut for $225, and I am seeing it for $799!! The black one is for $449 though. |
100 lbs is nothing. my amp weighs 300 lbs. I have it on the top of a rack I designed myself of welded 1"x1" x1/8" tube steel. 6.5’ span with zero sag. I will give you an idea. I laid out my equipment and measured how long and high each shelf needs to be. I had it welded up at a local weld shop for $300. I included a 1/4x1/4" steel bar on the inside bottom of each tube to hold the shelves. Instead of solid shelves, I cut 20 1" x 3" boards and stained them ebony. I spray painted the rack black. I velcro’s foamboard on the back of the rack and cut holes for each cable behind each component so all the cables are hidden. The rack pretty much disappears around my equipment. anyway, cost effective way to make a nice looking custom rack that will hold anything you want. Jerry |

Salamander Archetype. I bought a used stack in MAPLE including two side stands for speakers from a guy for about 40% new pricing. Found another stack I picked up out of state en route to our new home for even less. Sturdy, solid, great woodgrain. Comes in Cherry, Walnut and Black also but at a cost. |

I like the look and sturdiness of Maple Shade. I chose the ones with wheels for ease of movement. Great catalog. I spent $1,400 https://shop.mapleshadestore.com/Modular-Equipment-Shelves_c_111.html |
I haven't heard Atacama from the UK mentioned. I spent a lot of time looking a while back and ended up purchasing the Evoque Design Edition. It has been extremely solid and hasn't flinched with 200lbs on it. I thought it was "reasonably priced" relative to some of the other options. Also, I recently bought a new amp and need to raise one of the shelves ~4 cm. No problem since they offer aftermarket legs for a reasonable price. That is solid customer support in my book. |
Boltz - solid steel, powder coated, configurable and made in the USA. Boltz |

Stay away from Boltz. I ordered some CD racks 9 months ago and they never delivered. Ended up cancelling order and going elsewhere. I had previously ordered numerous products from them. I have some great amp and stereo equipment racks from Steve Blinn (Blinderman) but not sure he is still in business. There are still a lot of his racks for sale on the internet. He was a great guy to work with and his stuff was well built and engineered. |
I'm Looking for something more....furniture style. Gotta keep the wife happy after spending $30k on a freakin' stereo. (yes, we have an expensive hobby but it's no worse than building a muscle car. Once you start down the rabbit hole...) We have a Dutchcrafter solid wood bookcase and I need something more vertical. Thanks to everyone who posted here. Lot's of good info. Allow me to add Nikola Woodworking; |
"I use these guys, my dealer told me that they get The same steel as used In a Ferrari . Not as great a comparison as it seems - Ferrari used to send cars here that had no paint on the underside of fenders - they started rusting when they left the factory! Undercoating was pretty much unknown in Italy. |
