I don't get Prime ads but I've been getting 'sticky' ads that show up at the bottom of my computer screen when I'm on here.
Yep, banners that cross horizontally across the screen. I have a minimal amount of ad blockers on safari and far more on Chrome. It's interesting but some sites simply don't work well at all on Safari, irrespective of the ads. And other sites are so cluttered with ads, pop-ups and garbage, that I simply avoid them or paste the URL into the Chrome browser, where the heavy duty blockers mitigate them. There's gotta be a better way to monetize without interfering with readability.

We appreciate you letting us know about the ads. Appears it may be a bug and we are looking into it. Seems it is happening with Safari and tables/iPads. If you continue to get them, send an email to support@audiogon.com with what kind of browser you are using and device. Please include a screenshot of the ad. |
I never had any pubs pop up here... If i had i will go out... I set my computer to erase any ads... I did not have any anywhere .. I use my phone only to call and i call merely no one ( i am retired in paradise)... my sons lives near my house ...(walking distance) Then my brain is not yet fried by the phone microwaves..

Audiogon's insistence on home-brewing its own forum software is admirable. I mean, they could use working, proven, reliable software like every other audio forum does, thereby offering users a delightful, seamless experience and the ability to, oh, drag-and-drop pictures that are not grotesquely deformed in the rare instances when they do actually post, but where would be the charm in that? |
@devinplombier, Audiogon gives you a free forum to use weather you buy and sell here or not. If you do not like their software, there are many other audio forums that may be more to your liking. Let us know how it goes. |
One of my two anti-virus/anti-malware programs is the paid version of Malwarebytes (it saved my bacon many times). MWB has a superb ad-blocker which I use on Firefox, my primary browser. As a result, I haven't been served ads there in years. There's just one problem with this rosy picture: a number of websites are refusing to serve content unless I disable the blocker. This tactic is getting more robust and obstructive--they really mean business. I find in general that trying to set a permssion for certain websites to stream ads vs others just doesn't work. MWB has the functionality, but the website continue popping up the "Disable your ad-blocker" panels. Not sure how to proceed, though in general I just avoid those websites on the believe that if they are that intrusive and pushy, I don't need whatever they have to gbegin with. |
@desktopguy Add uBlock Origin and remove other Adblock extensions. |
I sent the email in quotes below to Audiogon customer support: ”There are far too many advertisements appearing on the Audiogon forums, and they have become overwhelming to the point of being disruptive. The sheer volume and placement of these ads make it difficult to focus on the actual forum discussions and meaningfully engage with the community. Instead of providing a smooth and enjoyable reading experience, these ads are disrupting my enjoyment. I assume Audiogon is getting paid for these ads and may rely on the revenue. That said, I’m finding the ads increasingly frustrating and, as a result, I’m not reading the forums as often as I used to. Thanks. I sometimes mark the ads as “not interested,” but new ones continue to appear. Unfortunately, this makes reading the Audiogon forums a frustrating experience. I believe something should be done to improve this. Thank you”. And, in addition, when I posted this, I received ANOTHER Amazon prime popup ad (using my iPhone and Safari). |
@devinplombier To be Brave. @cleeds certain individual browsers. Thank you for your advice. The Audiogon administrators have not given an update on their progress on the issue, so it appears to be the users problem to now solve. |
+1, I agree and took some action. I added 1Blocker to my iPhone and, it seems, the Audiogon ads have been blocked. It sure makes reading the forums must easier. I have 1Blocker for 14-days free and then there is a one time charge of $39.99. I need to decide if I should pay or not. FYI - “1Blocker offers a one-time payment option called the Lifetime plan, which costs $39.99. This is a one-and-done payment that unlocks premium features forever, meaning you pay once and never need to renew. This Lifetime purchase covers all Apple devices linked to your account and is a good value for long-term users”.

@hgeifman Audiogon Ads. Thank you for offering up this solution. Until recently reading comments on here was niggle free. It looks like ads are now the main disrupters out there. |
"Today, I'm experiencing much more. When the giant Prime ad appears, I can't even scroll the thread page" If you just downloaded a free version, until you pay for the full version you'll still get ads. As time goes by, we gets less and less for free on this wonderful, information highway. If it is free, then your data is mined- more junk email and those creepy ads tailored to you that follow you whenever you're on a web browser.

I posted above that I installed 1Blocker on my iPhone and it did a great job of blocking unwanted Audiogon ads — that was the good news. Unfortunately, The issue is it also blocked me from playing solitaire on my phone. I don’t have time or interest to troubleshoot this further so I ended up deleting 1Blocker altogether. I also understand that the ads above and below the forum content are important for generating revenue, which helps Audiogon support the maintenance of the Audiogon forums. I have no issues with this but get very frustrated when an Amazon Prime ad pops up in the middle of my forum content. When an Ad appears, there is a symbol to the left of the 3 dots. I hit this triangle like symbol, hit the tab that says send feedback and tell Google I am not interested in this ad. Yikes - In addition, another Amazon prime AD just appeared using Safari on my iPhone on Saturday, August 23 at 7am, California time. I immediately notified Audiogon customer support this Amazon ad appearing is very frustrating and interruptive to me reading Audiogon forums. Sometimes I just give up reading the forums. The ads above and below the forum content are okay but NOT in the middle of the forum content. Their appearance is VERY disruptive. Thanks.
