DeVore O/96 Unboxing
I’m not a sushi freak. I like it but I’m not the connoisseur guy that sits at the counter and just lets the chef create what he wants to serve me.
Opening my speakers was quite a nervous reveal. I knew that hand curated, walnut finish baffles is a DeVore variable that just is what it is. I had to trust that the master chef had created a beautiful and delicious meal for me. He did. And my wife approves too. Whew.
Working on pic uploads…..
Beautiful cabinet and yes on the open room right side. It is what I’m working with although my wife is open to trying a 90° rotation of everything except the console and the TV. My front wall would then be windows on the right but there’d be room symmetry regained and the couch listening position would be an equilateral triangle with speaker separation. |
I designed and own this from Tomfoolery and also love it. I initially ordered pre-pandemic but delayed a couple times and tweaked the design due to a move. I have my cabinet loaded with a couple hundred pounds of amps and component and it’s doing great. Your system looks great. You room reminds me of my room a few years ago. Open on one side and about the same size. I know it’s not ideal but I also know you can get some great sound even without it being ideal. |
Beautiful looking system. When I last bought main speakers I was debating between those and the cube Nenuphar mini’s. The tiebreaker was simply that the distributor had just received a custom pair in walnut that were going to be for his own use but offered to sell me. Still always intrigued by the 0/96s. By the way, did you get your cabinet from Tomfoolerywood.com? |
@ronboco Yes. It’s not ideal. I have limited options with the room as is. For critical listening I cover the windows with (3) 2’x3’ acoustic panels and put up a 5’ gobo studio panel on the kitchen side to block first reflections off the right speaker. I’m loosely considering rotating the room 90° to use the long wall as the front wall. The GIK panels I already have up helped a lot but there’s always room for more. |
@pdreher Yes. The shipping situation was / is quite robust. |
I have Wyetech Labs XM 300B monos. Roger Hebert, the owner and designer of Wyetech Labs, unfortunately died several years ago. His son Peter liquidated the remaining inventory and I was lucky to get them at a steep discount. I absolutely love them. I’m listening to a lot of jazz and acoustic music but they seem to be able to do it all. I loved my Decware ZMA, the 300B’s just give me a little more of the deeply musical and warm/rich sound of tubes. I credit the O96’s with a lot of the joy I get from my system. |
@mwood Close. It’s a Torii MkIV. I’m curious about the 300B sound. May have to investigate later. |
I’ve had a pair of O96’s since March 2020. They never cease to amaze and satisfy. I had the same Decware ZMA amp I think is pictured with your speakers, for about 3 years. I absolutely loved it and it worked beautifully with the O96’s. I have since upgraded to 300B mono blocks. Congratulations on a great system and what I consider to be among the finest and most musical speakers one can own! |
I only auditioned less stellar speakers at Whetstone. I lived with the Voxativ AC-PiFe full range drivers in my PAPs for 18 months. They are great and my impression of Voxativ is very good. I met Ines Adler (Vox CEO) at an audio show and auditioned a few different pairs. Nice but they didn’t bowl me over. I think that the PAP open baffle just didn’t work in my situation. |
A couple hours of initial positioning work with a mixing / mastering pro buddy of mine and we really uncovered the huge soundstage and detailed imaging with a Decware Torii MkIV amp. |
